Bettings Odds Calculator FAQs

How do you calculate betting odds payouts by hand?

Use your format’s formula, then add your stake for total payout. Positive American: stake × (odds ÷ 100). Negative American: stake ÷ (odds ÷ 100), ignoring the minus. Fractional: stake × fraction. Decimal: stake × odds equals total payout.

Why do implied probabilities add up to more than 100%?

The sportsbook’s margin, called the vig or juice, is built into the odds. If both sides of a game are priced at -110, each implies 52.4%, totaling about 104.8%. That extra 4.8% is the book’s edge.

How are parlay odds calculated?

Convert each leg to decimal odds, multiply them together, then multiply that result by your stake for the total payout. Every leg must win for the parlay to pay, so one losing leg sinks the entire ticket.

Which odds format is best: American, decimal, or fractional?

No format is best for payouts, because all three display the same bet differently. Decimal odds make math and parlays easiest, American odds are the US standard, and fractional odds are common in UK and Irish horse racing.

How do you find a value bet using an odds calculator?

Convert the odds to implied probability, then compare it with your own estimate of the chance of winning. If your estimate is higher, the bet has positive expected value. Rating a +150 line (40% implied) at 50% signals value.
