It’s vital to make wise decisions on a regular basis if you plan to make money from betting on football. Not all of these decisions are directly related to which wagers you place though. In fact, one of the single most important decisions involves choosing where you’re going to place your wagers.
The best option, by quite some distance, is on the internet. Online betting is convenient, fast and easy; it has several other benefits too. The only problem is that there are lots of sites to choose from, and picking the right one is difficult without any assistance. This is where we can help, as we’ve assessed a large number of sites and compared what they have to offer. The following came out on top, and we recommend these as the best football betting sites currently on the web.

The sites listed above have been carefully selected and ranked by our team. Having carried out extensive research and testing, we are 100% confident that these are the best places to bet on football at this moment in time. We keep all of our rankings fully up to date, so if you’re looking for somewhere to bet right now, then you really won’t find any better options.
We understand, however, that you may not simply want to follow our recommendations without first understanding WHY we’ve chosen to recommend them. It’s perfectly natural to want to know exactly what it is that makes these sites stand out from the rest. With that in mind, we’ve explained all about their key attributes below.
Also on this page is some advice for betting online and some basic information about football betting in general. There’s also some links to additional parts of our website that you may be interested in. If you are looking to bet on a specific league or genre of football, be sure to check out our dedicated lists for each one of those as well listed below.
We should start by pointing out that the term “best” in this content is subjective to some extent. It’s hard to say that any one site is definitively better than all others because certain aspects of what makes a site good are down to personal preference. For example, some people value bonuses above and beyond anything else. The best option for them is obviously a site that offers a lot of bonuses. Others aren’t so concerned about that, as they consider competitive odds and lines to be the most important thing to have.
We, therefore, have to look at a wide variety of factors when assessing sites. This enables us to form balanced views about just how good each site is in all the key areas that matter the most. In turn, this ensures that our rankings are both accurate and relevant to all our readers.
There are some factors that are more important than others of course. The following are, in our opinion, the most important of all.
The reason why these are especially important is simply that choosing a site that’s trustworthy should be your number one priority when deciding where to bet online. If a site can be trusted, then nothing else matters too much. If you don’t like what you find, you can simply withdraw your money and try somewhere else. Unfortunately, not all sites can be trusted. They’re in the minority, but they do exist. So there’s always a risk, although a small one, that you might have difficulty getting your funds back.
That’s why we look closely at the above factors when compiling our rankings. We’re only interested in recommending sites that are safe to use, reliable, and have a good track record. No site gets recommended by us unless we’re 100% certain it can be trusted.
This is true regardless of what category of gambling site were making recommendations for. Whether it’s online casinos, poker sites, or sites for betting on sports other than football, our primary concern is always your safety. After that, for this particular category there are two other factors that are very important.
The best football betting sites should offer comprehensive coverage of a wide range of games in our opinion. At the very least they should cover every single NFL game, but ideally college football will be covered too. The Canadian Football League can present good betting opportunities too, so there’s extra credit for the sites that also cover those games.
We also like to see sites offer a variety of different wagers, and not just the standard ones. Although most bettors do mostly use the standard wagers, it’s good to have some options. There’s a lot of money to be made outside of just betting the spreads and totals.
Everything mentioned so far is essential for a site to make it onto the list you see at the top of this page. The other factors we look at don’t have so much of an effect on our rankings. They’re still important though, as they have an effect on the overall user experience. Here’s a selection of some of the other things we take into account.
To summarize, it’s safe to say that we are very thorough when deciding which football betting sites we recommend to our readers. That’s why we’re confident that our rankings genuinely reflect the best options available at this point in time.
There’s more to having a good online football betting experience than picking the right site. That’s a key decision, for sure, but there are lot of other things that you need to think about too. For example, here are just a few dos and don’ts that we suggest you stick to.
Some of these might seem incredibly obvious, but that doesn’t mean they’re not worth thinking about. We know of many people who have made silly mistakes when betting online and not had a good experience as a result. We don’t want that to happen to our readers. So if stating the obvious can help just one person do the right thing, or not make a mistake, then we’re happy to do it. We wouldn’t go as far as to say that all of our advice is obvious to everyone in all circumstances.

Most of you who have found this page are probably already betting on football, but there’s a chance than some of you are new to it all. This is why we’ve included a little information on what is perhaps the most basic thing you need to know, which is how to use the following two types of wagers.
These are far and away the most popular football wagers, but they’re also the simplest and easiest to learn. Here’s how they work.
It might surprise you to know that the most popular football wager isn’t on which team will win a game, but rather which team will cover the spread. The best way to explain how these work is to first show you what the point spread for a game looks like. Please refer to the following example.
With point spreads, bookmakers make theoretical adjustments to the points total of each team for the purposes of the betting. The Chiefs are the favorite in this game, so they’re being effectively deducted three points. If you bet on them to cover the spread, you’d need them to win by more than 3 points to get a payout. The -110 represent the odds. In this case, a stake of $110 would mean potential winnings of $100. You can read more about understanding odds here.
The +3 next to the Texans means they’re effectively being given three points. For them to cover the spread, they’d need to either win or lose by less than three points. A bet on either side would be a push if the Chiefs won by exactly three points. This means all stakes get returned. To avoid pushes, bookmakers often have the spread include a half point. Therefore, it’s quite possible to see teams at +3.5 and -3.5.
Totals are even simpler than point spreads. With these, you’re betting on whether you think the total number of points scored in a game will be over or under an estimate provided by a bookmaker. For example, the totals market for the same game as above might look like this.
If you think the combined total of points scored by the two teams will be more than 40, then bet on the over. If you think it will be less than 40, then bet on the under. A push is also possible here. Exactly 40 and your stake would be returned regardless of whether you went over or under. Again, totals will often include half points to prevent this possibility.
Just understanding the above two bet types is enough to get you started with football betting. There’s a lot more you should know though, and it’s all covered in the following section of our football betting guide.
