College Football National Championship Odds (2026-27)

Ohio State leads the pack in the opening College Football National Championship odds ahead of the 2026 season. The Buckeyes are title favorites, but schools like Notre Dame, Texas, and defending champions Indiana will not go down without a fight.

Odds to Win the 2027 College Football National Championship

The Buckeyes are +600 favorites to win the 2026-27 CFP National Championship. Ohio State won the Natty two years ago and was the title favorite for much of last season. However, the Buckeyes’ quest to repeat ended in a 24-14 loss to Miami in the Cotton Bowl. 

Despite falling short of back-to-back titles, Ohio State still has one of the best rosters in college football. With that in mind, it comes as no surprise that the Buckeyes have an implied win probability of 14.29%, the highest of any team this preseason. 

After Ohio State, Notre Dame (+700) and Texas (+775) have the next-best odds at top NCAAF sportsbooks. Both made the playoffs two seasons ago but failed to make the cut last year. Now, the Fighting Irish and the Longhorns are ready to try again with Heisman favorite QBs at the helm. 

Oregon (+800) and Georgia (+900) round out the top five.

Why is Ohio State the NCAAF Title Favorite?

The Buckeyes’ defense was dominant last season, but it was not enough to lead Ohio State to another national title. Another year of experience for Julian Sayin, on the other hand, could help push Ohio State to the championship again. 

Sayin is not the only player returning, either. All-world WR Jeremiah Smith is also back and looking to cement himself as the top receiver in the 2027 NFL Draft. RB Bo Jackson, who accounted for just under half of the team’s rushing yards last year, also returned and is expected to have a great season. 

Ohio State is set on offense, but Ryan Day could have his work cut out for him on defense. 

The Buckeyes lost eight defensive starters from a season ago. Replacing Sonny Styles, Arvell Reese, and Caleb Downs, the team’s three leading tacklers, will be easier said than done. 

Despite the roster turnover, Ohio State is the top-ranked team in the preseason AP Top 25. Keeping that spot will be challenging, as the Buckeyes play a loaded schedule that includes Texas, Indiana, Michigan, and Oregon. 

If Ohio State can make it through their regular season schedule unscathed, they will be at or near the top of the AP rankings and in a play for a bye in the CFP. 

Top CFP Title Contenders

Notre Dame has the second-best CFP odds entering the 2026-27 season at +700. Texas (+775) and Oregon (+800) are also near the top of the odds boards and expected to be title contenders this year. 

Notre Dame (+700)

Notre Dame lost the CFP title game in the 2024-2025 season. The Fighting Irish then failed to make the playoffs in 2025-26. This year, though, with Heisman favorite CJ Carr under center, Notre Dame has the second-best opening odds to win the National Championship at +700.

Carr will need to improve this year for the Fighting Irish to have a chance at making the CFP. Notre Dame lost Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price to the NFL. The RB duo racked up more than 2,000 yards last season and were vital to Notre Dame’s offense. 

On the bright side, the Fighting Irish have time to figure it out. Their first eight weeks should be relatively easy wins before they play Miami in early November. 

Texas (+775)

Texas is another team looking to recapture its success from two seasons ago. The Longhorns reached the Cotton Bowl in the 2024-25 season but failed to make the playoffs last year. 

Arch Manning has significantly more experience now, and Texas’s offense should be better as a result. Texas made a point of surrounding Manning with talent, too, including recruiting WR Cam Coleman from Auburn. 

Texas also added two notable RBs in the portal, Hollywood Smothers from NC State and Raleek Brown from Arizona State. 

The Longhorns will need all the help they can get against a tough schedule this year. In addition to playing #1 Ohio State in week 2, Texas plays a loaded SEC schedule that includes six teams ranked in the preseason AP Top 25. 

Oregon (+800)

Speaking of Heisman candidates, Dante Moore and the Oregon Ducks are listed at 8-1 odds to win the National Championship this season. 

The Ducks made it to the final four teams in last year’s CFP but lost to Indiana 56-22 in the Peach Bowl. With Moore back for one last run, Oregon should be one of the top offenses in college football this season. 

Oregon’s early schedule is very easy, playing just one ranked team, but the Ducks’ final month is extremely tough. It starts with a matchup against #1 Ohio State in Columbus in early November. Then, Oregon hosts #16 Michigan before rounding out the regular season with Michigan State and #17 Washington.

Best 2027 National Championship Sleepers 

• Ole Miss (+2500)
• USC (+3300)
• Michigan (+4500)

Ole Miss is my top 2027 National Championship sleeper at 25-1 odds. The Rebels made a surprise run in the CFP last season, making it all the way to the Fiesta Bowl. With Trinidad Chambliss back for a final year, Ole Miss should make the playoffs again this season. 

Another sleeper to keep an eye on this season is USC. The Trojans, who returned QB Jayden Maiava and all of their starting offensive linemen, are listed at +3300 odds to win the Natty this year. If USC can finally fix its defensive issues, then the Trojans should finally make the CFP under head coach Lincoln Riley. 

Michigan is another dark horse with a lot of value ahead of the 2026-27 season. The Wolverines are available at +4500 odds to win their second Natty in four years. Michigan’s title hopes will rest on the shoulders of Sophomore QB Bryce Underwood, who could be primed for a breakout year after struggling as a true Freshman last season.

2027 College Football National Championship Prediction

Oregon has been close to breaking through for a National Championship in recent years, but the Ducks have consistently come up short. I think that will change this year, with Dante Moore leading the Ducks to the Natty in his final year at Oregon.

WR Malik Benson and TE Kenyon Sadiq, the Ducks’ top two receivers last year, will be hard to replace. RB Noah Whittington, the team’s leading rusher, also left for the NFL. 

The good news, though, is that Oregon was active in the transfer portal this offseason. WR Iverson Hooks, for instance, had a breakout season at UAB last season and joins a loaded Ducks’ receiver room. Evan Stewart is also back after missing last season with a torn patellar tendon. 

Oregon made several additions on defense, too, such as safety Koi Perich and cornerback Aaron Scott Jr. 

The Ducks have a potent offense led by an experienced QB and what should be an improved defense. On paper, Oregon has everything it needs to finally win the Natty this year.
