Key Highlights

  • The Primm family has reached an agreement with local company Terrible’s to keep the Nevada-California border town in business.
  • The deal helps protect hundreds of jobs and maintain services for residents and travelers.
  • Community leaders see the agreement as a positive step for Primm’s future.

Primm Valley Resort, a prominent roadside attraction and gambling destination in Nevada, may not be shutting down operations after all.

Terrible’s, a casino and convenience store subsidiary of Las Vegas-based Terrible Herbst Oil Co., announced on June 9, 2026 that it had reached an agreement with the Primm family to purchase its hotel-casino and other properties.

Founded in 1959, Terrible’s has more than 170 gas stations in the US, primarily in Nevada, California, Utah, and Arizona. It returned to Primm in 2024, opening a new lottery business on the east side of Interstate 15.

Agreement Prevents Immediate Shutdowns

Situated near the California border along Interstate 15, Primm Valley Resort is the last major casino operating in the once-thriving border town. It was preparing to close July 4, but the new deal eases concerns about potential closures that had created uncertainty for workers, residents, and local leaders.

The agreement ensures operations can continue while stakeholders evaluate longer-term plans for the town. For many in the community, the development provides welcome stability after weeks of questions surrounding the future of local businesses and services. However, continued operation of the resort is contingent upon Terrible’s securing a gaming license. The company previously owned and operated Primm properties until a 2010 bankruptcy reorganization.

Jobs & Services Remain In Place

The impact on employees and residents was a major concern surrounding the potential closures. Hundreds of workers faced uncertainty, while businesses that support both locals and visitors risked being affected by any prolonged shutdown.

By keeping operations running, the agreement helps preserve jobs and maintain access to important services. Primm remains a key stop along Interstate 15, serving travelers, truck drivers, and tourism-related businesses moving between Nevada and California. It is also a prime lottery destination for Nevada residents traveling to buy California lottery tickets.

Focus Turns To Primm’s Future

While the agreement addresses immediate concerns, attention is already shifting toward Primm’s long-term outlook. The community has faced economic challenges in recent years, including changing travel habits and increased competition from other gaming destinations.

Local stakeholders remain optimistic that continued operations can create opportunities for future investment and redevelopment. Keeping businesses open provides a foundation for discussions about how the community can attract new activity and strengthen its position as a border destination.
