Kalshi Breaks Trading Records With $4.859 Billion NFL Week 1 Weekend
Key Highlights
- Kalshi generated a record $4.859 billion in trading volume across Saturday and Sunday.
- Parlays accounted for more than half of trading activity on both days.
- Kalshi collected roughly $32 million in fees over the record-setting weekend.
As regulatory issues for prediction markets escalate throughout the United States, Kalshi had its biggest weekend ever thanks to Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season.
Kalshi Sets Back-To-Back Daily Volume Records
Kalshi trading volume reached $2.426 billion on Saturday before climbing to $2.433 billion on Sunday. The consecutive daily records brought total weekend volume to $4.859 billion, highlighting the scale of football-related activity on the prediction market platform. Combined contract volume on Kalshi and Polymarket for the week of Sept. 7-13 exceeded $14 billion.
Parlays drove much of the surge on Kalshi, generating $1.47 billion on Saturday and another $1.48 billion on Sunday. Straight football bets contributed $328.7 million and $409.9 million, respectively. The Cowboys-Giants Sunday Night Football matchup was the weekend’s busiest individual market, generating $56.3 million on the winner and $16.3 million on the spread.
College football also generated considerable trading activity on the platform. The Ohio State-Texas game on Saturday attracted more than $52 million in volume on Kalshi.
Trading Volume & Fees Tell Different Stories
Kalshi’s headline trading figures aren’t directly comparable with the handle on football betting sites because the platform counts both sides of each trade. Taker-side volume, which offers a closer comparison with conventional betting handle, reached $555.7 million Saturday and $596.7 million Sunday, both below the $640.3 million record established on July 11.
Fee revenue also approached record territory during the first weekend of the NFL season. Kalshi collected $15.99 million on Saturday and $16.02 million on Sunday, slightly below its $17.1 million daily record from July 11. Takers lost a combined $2.1 million before fees and $15.2 million after fees across the weekend.
Record Parlay Trade Highlights Market Activity
The weekend also featured Kalshi’s largest known parlay “yes” stake. Two block trades carried $3.7 million in notional value on a three-team NFL parlay featuring the Cowboys, Raiders, and Eagles, with the taker committing exactly $1 million before the wager lost when the Giants defeated Dallas. Kalshi began offering parlay-style contracts ahead of the 2025 NFL season, which saw a 22% rise in first-time bettors.
The numbers show how quickly liquidity can build around major football events, particularly through parlay markets dominated by market makers. However, the structure of Kalshi’s trading volume means its multibillion-dollar totals shouldn’t be treated as equivalent to sportsbook handle, especially when long-odds parlays account for such a substantial share of activity.
