Key Highlights

  • Rockstar Games has restricted GTA Online casino activities for Australian players.
  • Blocked features include blackjack, roulette, slot machines, poker, horse racing, and the Lucky Wheel.
  • Australian users have also reported losing access to poker in Red Dead Online.

Australian GTA players can steal luxury vehicles, rob banks, and beat unsuspecting characters into oblivion, but they can no longer gamble with play money.

Australian Players Lose Access to Casino Games

Rockstar Games reportedly blocked Australian GTA Online players from using gambling features inside the Diamond Casino & Resort. Players can enter the casino building, but they can’t participate in its table games, slot machines, horse racing, or other gambling-related activities.

Reports of the restriction initially appeared on Reddit, where Australian users said casino features had unexpectedly stopped working. Rockstar Games dataminer Tez2 later identified a change in the game’s code that restricts gambling activities based on a player’s geographic location.

The code reportedly includes the label “Gambling_Restricted_Geographic,” indicating that the limitation was deliberately introduced for specific regions. Australia has now joined the list of more than 30 countries, including China and Greece, where parts of GTA Online’s casino content can’t be accessed.

Table Games & Lucky Wheel Are Unavailable

The restriction covers nearly every interactive gambling feature offered at the Diamond Casino. Australian players can no longer access Three Card Poker, Inside Track horse racing, blackjack, roulette, casino slot machines, or the Casino House activities.

The Lucky Wheel has also been disabled. Players typically receive one free spin each day for a chance to win in-game prizes such as chips, clothing, cash, vehicles, or discounts. Its inclusion in the restriction has frustrated users who don’t consider the feature comparable to traditional gambling.

Unlike Australian online casinos, GTA Online’s casino uses fictional chips. Players can purchase the game’s Shark Cards with real money, but the casino chips themselves aren’t directly redeemable for real-world currency. Rockstar Games hasn’t publicly explained why every listed casino activity, including the free Lucky Wheel spin, has been blocked.

Player Frustration Spreads Beyond GTA Online

Australian players have criticized the decision on social media, arguing that casino activities were part of a product they had already purchased. Others questioned why gambling received additional restrictions when GTA Online contains numerous fictional criminal activities, including robberies, weapons trading, and drug operations.

The change appears to follow increased scrutiny of online gambling in Australia, although Rockstar Games hasn’t confirmed that government action directly caused the restriction. Without an official statement, it’s unclear whether the block is permanent or whether individual casino features could eventually return.

GTA Online may not be the only Rockstar title affected. Australian users have also reported that poker is now unavailable in the western-themed game Red Dead Online. Like the Diamond Casino activities, Red Dead Online poker uses in-game currency rather than direct real-money wagers.
