#3 Notre Dame is the biggest favorite of Week 6, as the Fighting Irish are laying 38.0 points against Stanford. #5 Ohio State is also a massive favorite at -34.5 points in the Buckeyes’ matchup against Maryland.

#1 Texas is favored by 7.5 points against Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry. At -310 odds, the Longhorns have an implied win probability of 75.61%.

Another major rivalry game in the SEC this weekend is #2 Georgia vs. #6 Alabama. The Crimson Tide are the lower-ranked team, but they are laying 2.0 points as home favorites on Saturday.

The four AP Top 25 teams who are not playing this weekend are:

  • #4 Miami
  • #11 Texas Tech
  • #17 Mississippi State
  • #24 SMU

Best Week 6 College Football Picks

Straight Up/ML Picks

Icon of football
  • #14 Missouri (-165)
  • #25 Pittsburgh (-185)
  • #10 LSU (-350)

#14 Missouri (4-1) hosts Texas A&M (3-2), and the Tigers are -165 favorites. Mizzou dominated then-#8 Florida last week, beating the Gators 45-17 and holding their highly productive run game to just 42 rushing yards. If the Tigers can shut down the Aggies’ rushing attack, which averages over 160 YPG on the ground, then Mizzou will win this weekend.

#25 Pittsburgh is a -185 favorite for Saturday’s matchup against UNC. Tarheel’s coach Bill Belichick will have a plan to slow down the Panthers’ 10th-ranked passing attack. However, Pitts’ second-ranked run defense, which allows just 55.6 rushing YPG, will derail UNC’s offense by stopping the run and lead the Panthers to a win.

#10 LSU, which has racked up the third-most total YPG in college football (547.8), is a -350 favorite to beat Kentucky in Week 6. The Wildcats just missed the Top 25, getting 160 votes, two short of #25 Pitt (162). Kentucky will be a tough matchup, but LSU’s rushing attack (237.6 YPG) should move the ball at will against a Wildcats defense that allows over 130 rushing YPG.

Best ATS Picks

Icon of football
  • Oklahoma +7.5 (-112)
  • Maryland +34.5 (-112)
  • #22 Houston +2.5 (-105)

Oklahoma (2-2) is out of the Top 25 and getting 7.5 points for Saturday’s Red River Showdown against #1 Texas. As bad as John Mateer and company have looked in recent weeks, I think they can cover this weekend. Two of Texas’s four wins have been by three points or fewer, and its offensive struggles could prevent the Longhorns from covering the spread.

Maryland is getting 34.5 points against #5 Ohio State in Columbus this weekend. The Buckeyes should win this game easily, but it could be a look-ahead spot with a tough matchup against #7 Indiana next week. If Ohio State is overlooking Maryland, the Terrapins can cover the massive spread.

#22 Houston is a 2.5-point underdog against an unranked Kansas State team this weekend. Both teams have running quarterbacks, but K-State’s Avery Johnson is averaging 9.7 yards per carry. The Cougars need their run defense, which is allowing just 65.4 YPG, to slow down Johnson if they want to cover the spread and have a shot at an upset.

Top CFB Upset Picks

Icon of football
  • #20 Iowa (+140)
  • #2 Georgia (+100)
  • #19 USC (-103)

#20 Iowa is my top underdog in Week 6 at +140 odds to beat the unranked Washington Huskies in Seattle. The Hawkeyes are coming off their first loss of the season, and Husky Stadium is a tough place to play. Iowa’s defense has only allowed 12.6 PPG and will shut down the Huskies’ offense this weekend.

#2 Georgia (+100) is another underdog I like to win this week as the Bulldogs take on #6 Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Both teams are undefeated, but Georgia’s running game will make the difference this week. The Bulldogs are racking up 213 YPG on the ground, and running the ball will help Georgia control the game and pick up the win.

Rounding out my underdog picks in Week 6 is #19 USC, which is available at -103 to beat Penn State (-117) on Saturday. The Nittany Lions have floundered lately, dropping back-to-back games to unranked Wisconsin and Northwestern teams. The Trojans’ defense has been bad, but USC can win if they slow down a struggling PSU offense.

Top Week 6 College Football Prop Bets

Icon of football
  • Bear Bachmeier (#8 BYU) anytime TD scorer (-152)
  • Josh Hoover (#7 Indiana) over 1.5 passing TDs (+117)
  • Nico Iamaleava (#21 UCLA) over 0.5 passing TDs (-205)

Top college football betting sites have #8 BYU’s Bear Bachmeier listed at -152 to score this Friday against Iowa State. The Cougars QB has four rushing TDs this year and is averaging 4.8 YPC. Iowa State is allowing nearly 150 rushing YPG, which should leave plenty of room for Bachmeier to run this week.

Another QB to bet on this weekend is #7 Indiana’s Josh Hoover, who is listed at +117 odds to have over 1.5 passing TDs. Hoover has 15 passing TDs in five games this year, averaging three per game. Nebraska has a great passing defense, allowing 165.2 passing YPG, but Hoover and the Hoosiers will be their toughest test of the season so far.

#21 UCLA needs a big game from Nico Iamaleava if the Bruins want to have a shot at upsetting #13 Oregon. Iamaleava is listed at -205 odds to have over 0.5 passing TDs. Oregon’s pass defense allows over 230 YPG, which should allow Iamaleava and the Bruins to move the ball through the air and score at least one passing TD.
