Kennesaw State vs. #15 Tennessee#15 TennesseeKennesaw State#15 Tennessee -35.5 (-105)
UTSA vs. #1 Texas#1 TexasUTSA#1 Texas -30.0 (-112)

#1 Texas is atop the AP rankings for the first time this season after taking down Ohio State. The Longhorns begin their reign as the top-ranked team as 30.0-point favorites against UTSA. Texas won both the previous meetings between these schools.

The biggest favorite of the weekend is the Buckeyes, who are laying 53.0 points against Kent State. Ohio State has a lot to prove after their fourth-quarter collapse last weekend, and the Golden Flashes could be the perfect punching bag for Ryan Day and company.

On the other end of the spectrum, the smallest spread is between #16 SMU and #23 Louisville. The Cardinals are favored by 1.0 point over the visiting Mustangs.

Best Week 3 College Football Picks

Here are my favorite picks for Week 3, using odds from the best football betting sites.

Straight Up/ML Picks

Icon of football
  • #9 Texas A&M (-850)
  • #10 Alabama (-1400)
  • #25 Virginia (-430)

#9 Texas A&M leads my college football predictions for Week 3. The Aggies are listed as -850 favorites against the visiting Kentucky Wildcats. Kentucky could not slow down Alabama and will face an equally tough challenge against Texas A&M this weekend.

#10 Alabama is a -1400 favorite over the visiting FSU Seminoles. Florida State shocked the Crimson Tide last year, but it will not have the home-field advantage this time around. Alabama’s offense will exploit the holes in a Seminoles’ defense that has allowed over 450 YPG.

My third moneyline pick is #25 Virginia, which is a -430 favorite against West Virginia this week. The Cavaliers have racked up 247.5 rushing YPG this season, and three players have averaged 6.0 or more YPC so far. Another productive day on the ground will help Virginia take down the Mountaineers.

Best ATS Picks

Icon of football
  • #5 Miami -20.5 (-115)
  • #2 Georgia -24.5 (-115)
  • #12 USC -23.0 (-105)

#5 Miami has averaged a ridiculous 702.5 YPG on offense, the most in the country by far, and racked up 61.0 PPG. Despite their high-scoring offense, the Hurricanes are only favored by 20.5 points against Wake Forest. The Demon deacons allowed Purdue to score 36 points last week and have little to no hope of containing the Hurricanes.

#2 Georgia is another favorite that can cover this week, as the Bulldogs are favored by 24.5 on the road against Arkansas. The Razorbacks were blown out by #20 Utah last week, 43-10. Georgia has scored 63+ points in both of its games this season and should run up the score again this week in Fayetteville.

#12 USC’s defense has looked shaky at times, but the Trojans are 3-0 with an average margin of victory of 24.67 points. They are favored by 23.0 points against a 0-2 Rutgers squad that is arguably the worst team in the country. The Trojans will win and cover by scoring 39+ points again this weekend.

Top CFB Upset Picks

Icon of football
  • #22 Houston (+265)
  • #8 Ole Miss (+107)
  • #16 SMU (+100)

#22 Houston is a +265 road underdog against #13 Texas Tech this weekend in a Big 12 showdown. The Cougars’ offense has racked up 562 YPG and 55.0 PPG this season, ranking in the top 10 in both. The Red Raiders’ weak passing defense, which has allowed 268 passing YPG, will be their downfall this weekend.

Another ranked-vs.-ranked matchup this week pits #7 LSU vs. #8 Ole Miss in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. The Tigers are -128 road favorites over Lane Kiffin’s old team despite Sam Leavitt’s injury. If Leavitt does not play, though, LSU’s high-scoring offense will be limited, and Ole Miss can take down the Tigers.

#16 SMU Mustangs are even-money road underdogs against #23 Louisville. The Cardinals’ defense struggled in their Week 1 loss to Ole Miss, allowing 41 points and nearly 500 yards of total offense. Louisville will have similar issues this weekend against an SMU offense that has averaged 566 YPG and 41.5 PPG.

Top Week 3 College Football Prop Bets

Icon of football
  • Legend Bey (Ohio State) anytime TD scorer (-136)
  • #20 Missouri -15.5 in the 1st half (-108)
  • CJ Carr (ND) over 2.5 passing TDs (+125)

The top college football betting sites also offer exciting prop betting markets, such as Ohio State’s Legend Bey as an anytime TD scorer at -136 odds. Bey scored a touchdown in the Buckeyes’ opener against Ball State but saw minimal action last week. OSU will be running up the score this weekend, and Bey’s versatility as a runner and receiver will help him find the end zone.

Another prop I like for this week is #20 Missouri to cover 15.5 points in the first half against Troy. The Tigers have averaged 46.0 PPG this season, including 27.0 in the first half, and are riding high after their Border War win over KU in Week 2. Mizzou will continue to roll this weekend and lead by at least 16 at halftime against the visiting Trojans.

Notre Dame’s CJ Carr has thrown six touchdowns this season and is listed at +125 to have over 2.5 passing TDs this week against Michigan State. Carr and the Fighting Irish have averaged 46.5 PPG, including 414 passing YPG. The Spartans’ defense has played well against lower competition, but they are not prepared to stop Carr and Notre Dame this weekend.
