Why are the New York Liberty the WNBA Title Favorites?
New York made it to the finals in 2023, but they lost in four games to the Las Vegas Aces. The Liberty made up for their mistakes in 2023 by winning the championship last year. Breanna Stewart claimed her third title, and Jonquel Jones earned MVP honors.
Stewie resigned with the Liberty this offseason, and New York will be in a great position to repeat as champions. New York is the most experienced, and arguably the most talented, title contender remaining from last season.
The Liberty has already proved they can take care of business against Minnesota. Las Vegas, the former champion, is retooling after trading away Kelsey Plum. Connecticut, which made the semifinals last year, lost all five of its starters from last year this offseason.
Top 2025 WNBA Title Contenders
The Liberty retained their championship core, but they still face stiff competition if they want to defend their title this season. Year two of the Caitlin Clark experience in Indiana promises to be even better than last year. Las Vegas and Minnesota, two veteran teams, also have favorable WBA Championship odds.
Indiana Fever (+250)
Indiana’s combined 18-58 record in the 2022 and 2023 WNBA seasons earned them a 44.2% chance to land the first pick in the 2024 draft. The Fever won the draft lottery and selected franchise-changing superstar Caitlin Clark.
Clark struggled in the early parts of her rookie season, starting 3-10. The Fever found their footing in the middle of the season and finished 20-20 in Clark’s first year. Indiana made the playoffs, but they lost to Connecticut in a two-game sweep.
With a year of experience and a whole offseason to prepare, Clark should be even better in year two. On the other hand, outside of signing veteran DeWanna Bonner, the Fever did not add much help for Clark in the offseason.
Las Vegas Aces (+300)
The Las Vegas Aces won the title in 2022 and 2023, but they fell short last season despite an MVP-level season from A’ja Wilson. After failing to three-peat, Las Vegas was a part of one of the biggest trades this offseason.
Vegas offloaded Kelsey Plum to LA while acquiring Jewell Loyd from the Storm in a three-team trade. Loyd is taller than Pluym and has better career averages in points and rebounds per game.
However, after being the unquestioned leader on the Storm the last two years, Loyd must return to playing a support role. Loyd was part of a dynamic duo with Breanna Stewart during the Storm’s 2018 and 2020 title runs. If she can form a new duo with Wilson, the Aces could win their third title in four years.
Minnesota Lynx (+425)
Rounding out the top four in the latest WNBA title odds is Minnesota. The Lynx made it to the WNBA Finals last season, and they are listed at +425 to win it all this season.
The Lynx did not lose any major players, but they did not make any significant moves this offseason. On the bright side, Napheesa Collier, Kayla McBride, and company have already shown they have what it takes to make a run to the finals.
Minnesota also has a unique advantage at head coach. Cheryl Reeve led the Lynx to seven conference titles and four WNBA championships in the 2010s.
Best 2025 WNBA Finals Sleeper Pick
After the top four, the opening WNBA championship betting odds start to fade quickly. Phoenix has the fifth-best odds at +900, while the Storm and Sparks are tied for fifth at +4000 each.
Cameron Brink, the team’s first-round pick in 2024, should return from her torn ACL this season. Veteran Kelsey Plum, whom the team traded for this offseason, brings championship experience to LA.
If Brink can return in time for a playoff push, she and Plum could immediately become one of the top duos in the league. LA only needs to be one of the top eight teams in the league to make the postseason. If they make the playoffs, Brink’s defense and Plum’s shooting will make LA a threat to any team.

Who Will Win the 2025 WNBA Championship?
The Liberty (+225) sits atop the latest WNBA Championship odds boards, but can New York repeat as champions? Caitlin Clark and the Fever (+250) are the biggest threat to the Liberty, according to the updated odds.
