Gogel Receives Six-Month Suspension
PGA Tour Champions member Matt Gogel has received a six-month suspension after violating the PGA Tour’s integrity program. The suspension began Aug. 23, 2026, and runs through Feb. 22, 2027.
The 55-year-old placed wagers on golf competitions, although the tournaments involved weren’t events in which he participated. Gogel said the recreational bets were made during 2024 and 2025.
Gogel Addresses Betting Violation
Gogel said he unknowingly violated PGA Tour policy and emphasized that he didn’t wager on regular PGA Tour events, PGA Tour Champions events, or tournaments in which he was playing. He described the violation as an honest mistake and said he plans to return to PGA Tour Champions competition in 2027.
Other professional golfers have faced similar discipline. Korn Ferry Tour players Vince India and Jake Staiano received suspensions in 2023 for betting violations, while the DP World Tour suspended Marco Penge for two months and fined him $2,500 in 2024.
Suspension Impacts Gogel’s 2026 Season
Gogel entered the suspension after playing 17 PGA Tour Champions events in 2026. He recorded nine top-20 finishes, including two top-five results, and was ranked No. 20 on the Charles Schwab Cup money list.
His career includes six Korn Ferry Tour victories and one PGA Tour title, earned at the 2002 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. With nine events left in the 2026 PGA Tour Champions season when the suspension was announced, Gogel’s absence takes him out of the closing stretch toward the Charles Schwab Cup Championship.
