#14 Houston vs. #10 Utah #10 Utah (-240)#14 Houston (+200)#10 Utah -6.5 (-112)

#1 Miami is the biggest favorite of the week at -19.5 against Pittsburgh. The Panthers were briefly in the Top 25, but Pitt has lost back-to-back games since QB Mason Heintschel tore his ACL.

The Hurricanes are available at -1600 on the moneyline, implying a 94.12% win probability.

#14 Houston is the biggest ranked underdog of the weekend at 2-1 odds to beat #10 Utah (-240). However, #11 Tennessee (+112) is the only ranked team that is an underdog against an unranked team, South Carolina (-132).

There are six AP Top 25 teams not playing in Week 8, including:

Best Week 8 College Football Picks

Keep reading for a closer look at my favorite college football predictions available at the best football betting sites this weekend.

Straight Up/ML Picks

Icon of football
  • #18 LSU (-300)
  • #13 Alabama (-600)
  • #15 Iowa (-245)

#18 LSU jumped four spots after its dominant 31-0 win over then-#16 Mississippi State. The Tigers are listed at -300 to win again this week against Auburn. LSU is 0-2 on the road, but Auburn will have a tough time settling down after beating then-#1 Georgia in Week 7.

Lane Kiffin and company will get their first road win of the year over an unfocused Auburn squad.

#13 Alabama is lucky to still be ranked after back-to-back losses to conference opponents. The Crimson Tide are primed for a bounce back win this week against the visiting Texas A&M Aggies. Texas A&M is 1-3 against SEC opponents and 0-2 against ranked teams, so I trust Alabama to win.

The #15 Iowa Hawkeyes are -245 favorites over Minnesota despite starting backup QB Jeremy Hecklinski. Iowa averages 31.0 PPG, nearly a field goal more per game than the Golden Gophers (28.8 PPG). The Hawkeyes’ defense is their best weapon, allowing only 14.5 PPG, and it will shut down Drake Lindsey and co. on Saturday.

Best ATS Picks

Icon of football
  • #1 Miami -19.5 (-112)
  • #9 UCLA -15.0 (-108)
  • Michigan +7.0 (-108)

Miami jumped to #1 this week, and the Hurricanes are Week 8’s biggest favorite at -19.5. They host a Pittsburgh team this week that is without starting QB Mason Heintschel (ACL). Miami scores the most points (48.5 PPG) while allowing the seventh-fewest (14.0 PPG) and will beat a Pitt team that has not scored more than 21 points since Heintschel’s injury.

#9 UCLA is the last unbeaten team in the Big Ten, and the Bruins are laying 15.0 points against the visiting Michigan State Spartans. Ty Dieffenbach completed 66.7% of his passes for 264 yards in his first start of the season. He should do even better in his second start, helping the Bruins cover the 15.0-point spread against a Spartans team allowing over 25 PPG.

Michigan is a 7.0-point underdog against #6 Indiana on Saturday. The Wolverines’ offense has been inconsistent this year, averaging just 22.7 PPG. However, the Wolverines are making a QB change, putting Tommy Carr under center, and that move could spark a fresh look for Michigan’s offense and help them cover.

Top CFB Upset Picks

Icon of football
  • UCF (+212)
  • #11 Tennessee (+112)
  • #7 Ole Miss (+140)

UCF is a +212 underdog against #2 BYU on Saturday. The Cougars are coming off a major win over Notre Dame, but BYU had been looking forward to that game for nearly a year. A natural letdown after their win would not be surprising, and UCF’s strong rushing game, which averages 162.2 YPG, gives the Knights a clear path to the upset.

#11 Tennessee is a +112 underdog on the road against South Carolina. The Gamecocks (3-3) are inconsistent, and all of their losses have come against SEC opponents. Tennessee, on the other hand, is rolling after a major win over Alabama and can win again this week, even with back George MacIntyre in the lineup.

#7 Ole Miss is a +140 road underdog against #19 Texas this week. The Longhorns have lost back-to-back games against unranked opponents and Arch Manning has struggled significantly, especially late in games. Ole Miss is only 1-1 on the road, but the Rebels’ offense is rolling and will take advantage of Texas’s miscues.

Top Week 8 College Football Prop Bets

Icon of football
  • Will Hammond (#8 TTU) over 1.5 passing TDs (+110)
  • Kevin Jennings (#23 SMU) anytime TD scorer (+110)
  • Conner Weigman (#14 Houston) over 30.5 rushing yards (-115)

The best college football betting sites have Texas Tech QB Will Hammond listed at +110 odds to have over 1.5 passing TDs against Cincinnati. Hammond has exactly one passing TD in every game this season. I think he will finally have a multi-passing-TD game this week against a Bearcat defense allowing 294 passing YPG, the third-most in the country.

#23 SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings is listed at +110 to score a TD this weekend against Cal. Jennings has two rushing TDs this season and should have more opportunities to run against a weak Golden Bears defense. For reference, Cal is allowing 179.9 rushing YPG.

The #14 Houston Cougars need a big game from QB Conner Weigman if they want to upset #10 Utah. Weigman is a big part of the Cougars’ running game and is listed at over/under 30.5 rushing yards for Saturday’s matchup. Utah has a great rush defense, allowing just 88.7 YPG, but Weigman is averaging over 30 YPG on the ground and will cover his total in this prop.
