Renegade is a heavy favorite to win the final jewel of the Triple Crown in the latest 2026 Belmont Stakes odds. He has not raced since finishing second in the Kentucky Derby, giving him over a month’s rest for the Test of Champions.

I break down the current odds for the 2026 Belmont Stakes in the guide below. Also, I give my best picks for the 158th running of the Belmont Stakes.

2026 Belmont Stakes Odds

BetOnline provided the following odds for this year’s Belmont Stakes on Saturday, June 6th.

Renegade+165
Chief Wallabee+400
Commandment+600
Golden Tempo+625

Renegade was the opening favorite before the running of the Kentucky Derby. Despite coming up short at Churchill Downs, the Todd Pletcher-trained colt is a heavy favorite to win the Belmont Stakes at +165.

After the favorite, the odds to win the Belmont Stakes fade dramatically. Chief Wallabee has the second-best odds at +400, followed by Commandment at +600. Kentucky Derby winner Golden Tempo rounds out the top four at +625 odds.

Why Is Renegade Favored to Win the Belmont Stakes?

Top Belmont Stakes betting sites have Renegade as the betting favorite to win the Run for the Carnations.

Renegade was favored to win the Derby, too. BetOnline had Renegade listed at +350 to win the Run for the Roses, but he finished second. He is listed at +165 odds to win at Belmont.

Trained by Todd Pletcher, Renegade had a rough start in Churchill Downs. He was caught in traffic early but managed to fight out of it and make a push for the lead late. However, he lost by a neck to Golden Tempo.

His late speed and ability to overcome a poor start are good signs for Renegade. The Test of Champions is a 1 ½-mile track, a full quarter mile longer than the Derby. If he can avoid a slow start, Renegade has the closing speed to win in New York.

Prior to being the runner-up in Kentucky, Renegade won back-to-back races, taking first at the 2026 Arkansas Derby (G1) and the 2026 Sam F. Davis (LS).

Renegade was trained by Pletcher, one of the most respected trainers in the business. Pletcher has trained two previous Kentucky Derby winners and has four Belmont wins under his belt.

Can Golden Tempo Repeat His Kentucky Derby Success?

Golden Tempo closed the morning of the Derby at 23-1 odds to win the Run for the Roses. Like Renegade, he was caught in traffic early in the race but overcame his slow start.

He won the Kentucky Derby by a neck, finishing with a time of 2:02.27, becoming the first winner with a female trainer. Golden Tempo also had the fastest Derby winning time since Mage in 2023.

After winning the Derby, Golden Tempo’s trainers decide not to have him compete in the Preakness, giving up his chance to win the Triple Crown. This will be his first race since his win at Churchill Downs.

More Belmont Stakes Contenders

  • Chief Wallabee (+400)
  • Commandment (+600)
  • Emerging Market (+700)

Chief Wallabee is a distant second to win the Belmont Stakes at 4-1 odds at the top horse racing betting sites. The current betting lines give Chief Wallabee an implied win probability of 20%, compared to Renegade’s (+165) 37.74%.

Commandment (6-1) and Emerging Market (7-1) are also top contenders competing in the Run for the Carnations.

Chief Wallabee (+400)

Chief Wallabee has the fourth-best odds to win the Kentucky Derby. Despite finishing fourth at Churchill Downs and skipping the Preakness Stakes, Chief Wallabee has the second-best odds to win the Belmont Stakes.

He is listed at 4-1 odds to take home the win in New York. Sired by Constitution, Chief Wallabee was trained by William Mott. Mott trained Drosselmeyer and Sovereignty, who won the Belmont Stakes in 2010 and 2025, respectively.

Commandment (+600)

Commandment was also a top favorite ahead of the Kentucky Derby, closing around 6-1 odds. He is listed at similar odds to win the Belmont Stakes.

Including his maiden-breaking win in a Maiden Special Weight (MSW), Commandment had four straight wins heading into the Kentucky Derby. His strong resume did little to help Commandment once the race started, though, as he finished seventh and never took the lead in the competitive race.

Commandment is one of three Into Mischief sires expected to compete at Belmont. He was trained by Brad Cox. Cox trained Mandaloun and Essential Quality, who won the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont, respectively, in 2021.

Emerging Market (+700)

Another horse looking to overcome a disappointing showing in the Kentucky Derby is the Chad Brown-trained Emerging Market. Sired by Candy Ride, Emerging Market finished 10th in the Derby.

Prior to his forgettable showing in Kentucky, Emerging Market won an MSW and the 2026 Louisiana Derby (G2). The Derby was his first attempt to win a G1, and he finished 7 ¾ lengths behind Golden Tempo.

Best 2026 Belmont Sleepers

  • Chip Honcho (+1600)
  • Potente (+2500)
  • Ocelli (+2800)

Chip Honcho (+1600), Potente (+2500), and Ocelli (+2800) are my top sleeper picks for the 2026 Belmont Stakes.

Chip Honcho (+1600)

After missing the cut for the Kentucky Derby, Chip Honcho was among the favorites entering the Preakness Stakes. He finished third, coming in 4 ½ lengths behind the winner, Napoleon Solo.

Chip Honcho fell short of winning, but he managed to stay in the top five for the majority of the Preakness Stakes, battling through traffic for the majority of the race.

Trained by Steve Asmussen, Chip Honcho has not won a race since the 2025 Gun Runner (LS) in December. However, he has remained active, racing four times in 2026. Chip Honcho has finished in the top five of every race he has competed in this year.

Potente (+2500)

Another to watch in this year’s Belmont Stakes is Potente, who is available at 25-1 to win the final jewel in the Triple Crown.

Like Renegade and Commandment, Potente was sired by Into Mischief. His strong lineage is not the only reason to bet on Potente pulling off an upset. He was trained by Bob Baffert, who has 17 wins in Triple Crown races.

Baffert has trained two Triple Crown winners, American Pharaoh (2015) and Justify (2018).

Potente finished 12th in the Derby, by far his worst showing in 2026. He had previously finished second in the 2026 Santa Anita Derby (G1) and won the 2026 San Felipe (G2).

Ocelli (+2800)

Ocelli was the surprise of the 2026 Kentucky Derby, finishing third in the Run for the Roses. He had another impressive showing in the Preakness, finishing fourth.

Back-to-back top-four finishes in Triple Crown races should make Ocelli a top contender in New York. However, he is listed at 28-1 odds in part because he has never won a race.

Ocelli used his closing speed to take the lead in the final furlong. However, he was passed before the finish line by Golden Tempo and Renegade. If he can avoid a slow start this time around, Ocelli’s late race speed could be the key to securing his first career win at the Belmont Stakes.

2026 Belmont Stakes Winner Prediction

Renegade (+165) is the betting favorite to win the 2026 Belmont Stakes.

He was pushed a lot in the early stages of the Derby, resulting in a slow start. Assuming he avoids a similar fate in New York, Renegade has all the tools he needs to win the Belmont Stakes.

Renegade had to use a lot of energy to overcome the early traffic and fight for a top spot. It likely affected his closing speed, and he was not able to beat Golden Tempo in the final stretch. However, a better start will leave more gas in the tank for the end of the Test of Champions.

My top sleeper pick is Ocelli, who has finished in the top four in back-to-back Triple Crown races. He is still searching for his first win, but Ocelli has more than proved he can hang with the top colts of his age. Including Ocelli in win/place/show wagers is a great way to take advantage of his 28-1 odds.
