Only two ranked teams, #14 Iowa State and #24 Virginia, are underdogs to unranked teams this week.

Best Week 6 College Football Picks
Here are my best bets for the first college football weekend in October.
Straight Up/ML Picks
My college football predictions for Week 6 start with #22 Illinois. The Fighting Illini bounced back in a big way last week, beating then #21 USC 34-32. Illinois (-380) will win again this week on the road against Purdue (2-2).
Another ranked team that should pick up the win this week is #9 Texas. The Longhorns are -255 favorites against Florida (1-3). The Gators fell out of the rankings after losing to South Florida in Week 2 and have since lost to LSU and Miami. Florida’s losing streak against ranked teams will continue this week against Texas.
Speaking of ranked teams from the Lone Star State, #11 Texas Tech is a -475 favorite against Houston. Both teams are undefeated heading into this Big 12 matchup. The Red Raiders, who topped #16 Utah last week and have scored at least 34 in every game, will win this matchup of high-scoring offenses.
Best ATS Picks
The Bulldogs lost once again to the Crimson Tide last week, dropping Georgia to #12 in the latest rankings. On the bright side, Georgia has a perfect punching bag to work out their frustrations on this week against Kentucky. The Bulldogs (34.5 PPG) are averaging over a touchdown more per game than the Wildcats (27.0 PPG) this year, and Georgia will cover the 20.5 points this week.
Speaking of #10 Alabama, the Crimson Tide is laying 10.5 points this week against the undefeated #16 Commodores. Alabama is coming off a huge win over its biggest rival, Georgia, and could overlook Vandy. I think Vanderbilt, which is averaging the fourth-most PPG this season (49.0), will cover +10.5.
The #1 Ohio State Buckeyes were laying single digits in the Week 5 college football odds, and cruised to a 24-6 road win. Ohio State is laying 24.0 points this week at home against unranked Minnesota (3-1). The Horseshoe will be rocking for this Big 10 matchup, and the Buckeyes will cover at home.
Top CFB Upset Picks
#14 Iowa State is a road underdog this week against unranked Cincinnati. The Bearcats are averaging 39.5 PPG this year, and while the Cyclones have put up just 31.6 PPG. However, Cincinnati has played a much lower level of competition, and Iowa State will secure the road upset this week.
The current odds also list #24 Virginia, a new entry to the rankings, as an underdog this week. They face an unbeaten, but also unranked, Louisville team on the road this week. Virginia’s high-flying offense outdueled Florida State last week, and they will keep rolling with a win in Louisville this week.
Boise State started the year ranked 25th but dropped out of the rankings after losing to USF. Since then, they are 3-0 and will now face #21 Notre Dame, which has won back-to-back games to improve to 2-2. The Fighting Irish’s struggles against good teams will return this week, and the Broncos will get the upset win in South Bend.
Top Week 6 College Football Prop Bets
Penn State, predictably, lost another big game against a top 10 team last week. The good news for Nittany Lions fans is that PSU faces an unranked UCLA team in Week 6. They are 25.0-point favorites, but I think Penn State can cover an alternate spread of -27.0 (+105)
The 5th-ranked Sooners are also heavy favorites this weekend, laying 45.5. Oklahoma should get out to an early lead, and I believe they will cover -29.5 in the first half against Kent State.
One of the biggest matchups of the weekend pits #3 Miami against #1 Florida State. This battle for bragging rights in the Sunshine State should be one of the most entertaining games of the weekend. I think Miami’s Mark Fletcher, who has five TDs this year, will score at least once (-200) against the Seminoles.
