Aztec’s Treasure Slot Machine

Aztec’s Treasure is a 5 reel, 20 pay line slot released by Realtime Gaming in 2009.

The Aztecs made a huge cultural impact on the central Mexico region that they inhabited from the 14th to 16th century.

They also left a lasting impact on modern society, being the first civilization to mandate education, create terraced agriculture, and discover muscle spasm medicine.

Given everything that they’ve done, it’s no surprise that Aztecs have served as a very popular theme for slots games. Betsoft, Novomatic, and Play’n Go have all developed slots revolving aroundthe legendary tribe.

How does Realtime’s Aztec’s Treasure compare to these versions?

Find out as we cover this game’s pay table, graphics, bonuses, betting options, and comparisons to similar slots.

This game shows an Aztec city in the background as the sun is setting. You’ll also see trees, mountains, and a river in what creates a scenic landscape.

We wouldn’t describe the background as overly detailed, but it looks okay when compared to other slots from the late 2000s.

Aztec’s Treasure isn’t big on animations or music. The only time that you see an animation and hear music during the main game is if the Aztec king appears in a pay line. When this happens, youhear a tribal beat while light shines behind the king’s head.

If you trigger the bonus game, you’ll hear tribal music playing throughout the duration of your free spins.

Sound effects in Aztec’s Treasure are limited to the generic sounds heard in many Realtime games. These include a ring after every spin, and a grinding noise when you spin the reels.

Aztec’s Treasure isn’t the most advanced game, as you can see by the lack of animations and music. But it’s not so basic that you’ll be completely bored with this game either.

Aztec’s Treasure Pay Table and Graphics

The following symbols and payouts are offered in Aztec’s Treasure:

  • Aztec King Wild

The king has a few treasures of his own, with a golden nose ring, lip ring, and earrings. Only appearing on reels 2, 3, and 4, the king substitutes for all other symbols except scatters anddoesn’t offer any payouts by himself.

  • Aztec Idol Scatter

The golden idol is the scatter symbol, and it multiplies your wins by 3x for 3 symbols, 15x for 4 symbols, and 100x for 5 symbols.

  • Aztec Woman

Wearing a purple cape and yellow headband, the woman pays 5,000 credits for 5 symbols, 500 for 4, 100 for 3, 5 for 2, and 2 for 1.

  • Jaguar

This ferocious predator once roamed all over Aztec lands. Jaguars pay 2,500 credits for 5 symbols, 500 for 4, 100 for 3, 5 for 2, and 2 for 1.

  • Headdress

Adorned with blue and red feathers, the headdress pays 1,000 credits for 5 symbols, 100 for 4, 50 for 3, and 5 for 2.

  • Golden Treasure and Necklace

These two treasures pay 500 credits for 5 symbols, 75 for 4, and 15 for 3.

  • A and K

    Both the A and K pay 200 credits for 5 symbols, 25 for 4, and 10 for 3.

  • Q and J

    The Q and J pay 150 credits for 5 symbols, 20 for 4, and 5 for 3.

  • 10 and 9

    The 10 and 9 pay 100 credits for 5 symbols, 15 for 4, and 5 for 3.

Symbol Graphics

The symbol graphics in Aztec’s Treasure are above average when compared to the industry. You won’t be wowed by the visuals, but they’re better than most slots.

We especially like the detail in the Aztec king, headdress, idol, and golden necklace. The detail in the woman and golden treasure could use some work.

The symbols do a good job of combining with the background to create a cohesive look.

Aztec’s Treasure Slots Bonus Features

When you land 3 or more golden idols anywhere on the reels, you trigger free spins. The number of free spins depends upon how many idols show up on the reels, including 15 free spins for 3symbols, 20 spins for 4 symbols, or 25 spins for 5 symbols.

You can pick up additional free spins for each idol that appears on the reels during the bonus. You’ll get 25 free spins for 5 idols, 15 for 4, 5 for 3, 2 for 2, and 1 for 1.

Also note that all wins during free spins are tripled.

Progressive Jackpot

Aztec’s Treasure offers a progressive jackpot that can be won randomly after any spin. It doesn’t matter how much you bet or even if you win a spin because you’re always eligible for this randomjackpot.

If you don’t like progressive jackpot games that require an expensive side bet, Aztec’s Treasures is perfect because you can win big with as little as one cent.

When we played Aztec’s Treasure, the random progressive jackpot was worth $4,093. But we know that it can grow larger than this based on what similar Realtime games offer.

Betting Options

You can change your coin denomination from $0.01 to $5.00 and adjust pay lines from 1 20. This makes for a minimum bet of $0.01 and a max wager of $100.00 per spin.

You adjust coin size by using arrows, which can be held down to speed up the betting process. You can also change pay lines with arrows, or use buttons on both sides of the reels to chooseexactly how many pay lines you want to play.

You can select auto spin to keep the reels spinning with your selected betting options for between 5 and 25 spins. This is handy when you’re trying to trigger free spins or win big payouts, butdon’t feel like paying full attention to the game.

Unlike other Realtime slots that we’ve played, Aztec’s Treasures doesn’t include any sophisticated options to control your auto spin settings – e.g. stop after your balance decreases by X amount. This is limiting if you like auto spin, especially since the max number of auto spins in this game is 25.

You won’t have the opportunity to control any other facets of this game because Aztec’s Treasure’s options are limited.

Win frequency is high in this game since you only need one Aztec woman in an active pay line to get paid. It also helps that the king wild symbol appears frequently. When playing 20 pay lines, you can expect to win one out of every three spins.

Comparison to Similar Slots

As mentioned before, Aztec’s Treasure isn’t the only slot that’s based on this famed tribe. It’s not even the only game that bears the same name because Betsoft and Novomatic only changed oneletter.

Below you can see how Aztec’s Treasure compares to these other versions.

Betsoft’s Aztec Treasure

Released in 2011, Betsoft’s Aztec Treasure is a 3 reel, 30 pay line slot that takes you deep into the Central American jungle.

This is clear from the trees and overgrown shrubbery just outside the Aztec temple background. You’ll also see an Aztec chief throw spears at symbols and knock stones out of them, which helps youunlock the bonus round.

This bonus is triggered when the chief collects three stones. The reels disappear and three holes appear, and you’re asked to put a stone in each hole one by one, with a new prize being revealedevery time.

Another bonus feature is triggered when 3 or more Love Huts land on the reels. This sees you help the chief choose one of two women to gift and take back to his Love Hut.

You’ll also earn free spins by getting 3 or more gecko symbols, and these free games can be retriggered at any time.

One more bonus opportunity comes when you get 3 calendar symbols in a pay line. You’re prompted to choose one of these calendars to reveal a payout.

Aztec Treasure is far superior to Betsoft’s Aztec’s Treasure in the bonus department. It also gives you the opportunity to hold reels when they contain favorable symbols.

The one edge that Aztec’s Treasures has, though, is in the graphics department because its symbols and background look better than Betsoft’s game.

Novomatic’s Aztec Treasure

Made by Austria’s Novomatic, Aztec Treasure features symbols that you wouldn’t expect from a game like this.

Some of the odd symbols that you’ll see include an eagle, corn, frog, pumpkin, and tomato. We’re not saying that these things didn’t exist in central Mexico at the time; it’s just weird for anAztec game.

More traditional Aztec symbols include a chief, princess, mask, and headdress.

The graphics are poorer quality than any other game on this list. The sound effects are also bad since they sound like any generic slot machine in Las Vegas. One more downside to Aztec Treasureis that it doesn’t offer any bonus features.

The only good quality to this game is that you can win up to 900,000 credits by getting 5 temples in a pay line.

Play’n Go’s Rich Wilde and the Aztec Idols

You’ll immediately notice the high production quality of this 5 reel, 15 pay line slot since it offers an introduction video. Aztec Idols’ graphics and animations are also better than what you’llsee in Aztec’s Treasure.

One more perk to Aztec Idols is the music because you’ll hear jungle noises, chilling sounds, and drumbeats throughout the game.

If you get 3 or more golden temples on the reels, you’ll unlock the second screen bonus round. You see Rich Wilde enter a temple, and you choose one of 5 golden idols to reveal your prize.

Free spins are triggered when you get 3 or more calendar symbols on the reels. Your triggering bet will also be multiplied 5x before the free spins begin.

Although Aztec Idols doesn’t include a lot of bonus features, we really like the cinematic display before the temple bonus. And this game’s graphics and animations beat any other Aztec themedslot on this list.

The Aztecs continue to live on through many elements of pop culture, including slots games. Aztec’s Treasure is one of these games, and it does a solid job of depicting the ancient empire.

Aside from the generic letters, all the symbols relate to Aztecs in one way or another. These symbols also feature great detail and look better than what you’ll see in most Realtime slots.

You can look forward to anywhere from 15 25 free spins when you land three or more idols on the reels. The random progressive jackpot is one more thing to appreciate about Aztec’s Treasure.

On the downside, this is a basic 5 reel slot machine that won’t impress advanced slots players. Aztec’s Treasure doesn’t offer a second screen bonus round nor does it have many animations orsound effects.

If you’re looking for a more sophisticated Aztec experience, try Rich Wilde and the Aztec Idols.

On the other hand, if you’re new to 5 reel slots or you just enjoy basic games, Aztec’s Treasure offers quality graphics and enough frills to hold your interest for a while.
