Wycombe Wanderers vs. Tottenham Hotspur – FA Cup, January 25, 2021
Wycombe secured a shock 4-1 victory over Preston in the previous round of the FA Cup, but it’s safe to say that their next opponent won’t be as easy to beat.
The Championship strugglers welcome Tottenham to Adams Park on Monday, January 25, with Jose Mourinho’s side sitting fifth in the EPL standings.
I assess the bookies’ odds before sharing my Wycombe Wanderers vs. Tottenham Hotspur prediction and betting pick.
Wycombe Wanderers vs. Tottenham Hotspur Odds
The top online betting sites haven’t exactly sprung any surprises here, have they?
As expected, Wycombe (8.75) is the rank outsider to win this one. Tottenham (1.25) is favored to advance without any problems, but we all know that the FA Cup is renowned for producing upsets.
Even placing a small wager on the draw (6.50) could give you a seriously tasty profit.
Wycombe Wanderers vs. Tottenham Hotspur Preview
It is no secret that Gareth Ainsworth’s men have struggled since gaining promotion to the Championship last year. Indeed, three wins from 23 league games have left Wycombe rock bottom of the second-tier standings.
The Chairboys suffered seven successive defeats at the start of the 2020/21 campaign before losing one of their next seven outings. But they have since managed to win just one of their previous 13 league games, meaning relegation is well and truly on the cards.
Still, Ainsworth’s men can take confidence from the fact that they demolished Preston 4-1 earlier in the month. Wycombe raced into a 3-0 lead inside 25 minutes in the previous round, setting up a tricky fourth-round matchup against Premier League opponents.
Unfortunately, the Chairboys have been nowhere near good enough at both ends of the pitch this term. Not only are they the second-lowest scorers in the Championship, but they also have the joint-worst defensive record in the division.
It feels like Spurs have dropped out of the EPL title race, at least for now. But a trip to Wycombe undoubtedly provides them with an ideal opportunity to secure a morale-boosting win.
Back-to-back defeats to Liverpool and Leicester leading up to Christmas have coast Tottenham a place in the top four. However, having taken eight points from their last four league outings, there is no immediate need for panic.
A second-string Spurs starting XI crushed non-league Marine 5-0 in the previous round of the FA Cup, but you can’t read too much into that result. Mourinho’s men followed that up with another straightforward win against Sheffield United, beating the Blades 3-1 last time out.
It is difficult to predict what kind of line-up Mourinho will field on Monday. But even if Spurs are without a number of key players, they should still have more than enough quality to get the job done.
Wycombe Wanderers vs. Tottenham Hotspur Prediction and Pick
Tottenham Hotspur to Win1.25
Following a busy summer transfer window, Tottenham now boasts strength in depth in every department. This means that Mourinho can afford to rest players and still get the results that he requires.
I’m expecting Wycombe to rise to the occasion on Monday, although it will be extremely difficult for the Championship strugglers to avoid defeat. A comfortable away win is looking likely here – and odds of 1.25 aren’t actually too bad.
