Wolverhampton Wanderers vs. Southampton – EPL (November 23, 2020)
This EPL game on Monday brings together a Wolves side that is playing a little worse than expected against a Southampton team that is starting to really blossom under head coach Ralph Hasenhuttl.
Both clubs have some very exciting players that have performed against the biggest clubs in the division – and this game should be one to look out for.
Wolves vs. Southampton Odds
Wolves are the favorite to take all three points at home on Monday, but not everything has gone to plan for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side this season so far.
Southampton has looked better in the opening few months and that makes the odds for the draw look like good value here.
Wolves waited until the second half in its last game against Leicester to get going and was punished for not taking the game to the league leaders earlier. By that time Jamie Vardy had scored a penalty – and then missed a second – and Wolves was always going to finish off second best.
It was a strange tactic from Nuno Espirito Santo, who is yet to see his side really get back to the style of last season. Results have not been terrible, apart from the 4-0 loss to West Ham, but the opponents have largely been from the bottom half of the league and the fixtures will get harder for Wolves.
Southampton will be a good test of how good Wolves could be this season, then. The Saints have started the campaign looking very impressive and the decision to stick with Ralph Hasenhuttl during the low points of last season is now looking like the best thing the Southampton board could have ever done.
Southampton sits in fourth place before this weekend’s fixtures and has now gone six games unbeaten after losing its first two. Both Everton and Villa have been beaten in that time and it is that level of team that Southampton will need to keep beating if it is to be involved in battling for the European places later in the campaign.
Wolves vs. Southampton Prediction and Pick
I have been far more impressed with the way that Southampton has played so far this year than the way Wolves has. I’m a big fan of Hasenhuttl and feel that he now has an excellent squad playing to its best abilities. Wolves can play a little as well though – and this could end up being a well-fought out draw.
