Wolverhampton Wanderers vs. Manchester United – English Premier League, May 23, 2021

Wolves plays Manchester United on Sunday with the Old Trafford side already assured of second place in the Premier League and looking forward to a Europa League final against Villarreal.

The home side has had nowhere near as successful a season, and Nuno Espirito Santo will use the offseason trying to work out how to improve his squad so it can compete next year.

Understandably, the United players will be looking forward to the cup final on Wednesday, but that doesn’t really explain making Wolves the slight favorite here, in my opinion.

The home side may well be more invested in this game, but I think that the draw might hold the best value with these odds.

Wolves lost again in midweek without scoring a goal and will finish the season easily in the bottom half of the table without really showing anything of note this year. The absence of Raul Jimenez has played a big part in Wolves’ troubles, but this is a team that should be doing better.

As for this game, he will want his team to be competitive before it takes a break for the offseason.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be just as keen to get through this one without any new injuries. The Villarreal game is the obvious priority, but he will hope that United doesn’t become too complacent as it did against Fulham in the week. Cavani had scored with an excellent 40-yard effort in that game before Fulham came back to equalize in the second half.

After Solskjaer had given Dean Henderson an extended run in the first team, David De Gea returned for that game. That suggests that the Spanish keeper is favored and will face Wolves and the number one choice for the Europa League final. Harry Maguire will definitely miss this one, though, after being injured against Aston Villa – and McTominay, Fred, and Martial will also be absent.

Manchester United has shown throughout the season that it is a better team than Wolves. But, with such an important game coming up just four days after this one, it is only natural that the players may hold back a little.

That could allow the home side to take at least a share of the points.
