Predictions and Picks for WNBA Games – May 31st, 2022

| May 30, 2022 5:49 pm PDT

My inaugural edition of WNBA predictions and picks for the 2022 season could’ve gone better. We went 2-2 on the predictions, missing on the Dallas Wings’ upset victory over the Connecticut Sun.

The Minnesota Lynx scored a push, meaning a 1-1 record for my best bets. We’ll head into my WNBA predictions for May 31st with a much better understanding of the league.

Tuesday’s WNBA action will feature eight teams, including a battle between the best teams in the league. Let’s start with the WNBA odds for each matchup.

WNBA Odds for Tuesday, May 31st

  • Mystics (-8.0) (+100) vs. Fever (+8.0) (-120), O/U 162
  • Mercury (+9.5) (-125) vs. Sky (-9.5) (-105), O/U 163
  • Sun (+4.5) (+105) vs. Aces (-4.5) (-125), O/U 167
  • Wings (+3.0) (+105) vs. Sparks (-3.0) (-125), O/U 165.5

Unfortunately, we don’t have odds for the moneyline. Honestly, that might be a good thing considering the spread doesn’t have much hope for the underdog in each matchup.

The Washington Mystics have been one of the best against the spread, covering in seven of their nine games. The Indiana Fever have looked better lately, covering in three of their last four games.

It’ll be interesting to see the point total for this matchup. Washington is 1-8-0 while Indiana is 7-2-1. Which side will prevail in Indiana?

The betting trends haven’t been kind to the Phoenix Mercury and Chicago Sky. They have a combined record of 4-11 against the spread. That makes me worried about the Sky being a (-9.5) point favorite.

Check out their record with the point total.

  • Phoenix Mercury: 5-3-1
  • Chicago Sky: 2-4-1

The matchup of the day will feature the Connecticut Sun vs. the Las Vegas Aces. Las Vegas almost always has a big spread, but that hasn’t stopped them. They’re 7-2 against the spread, while Connecticut is 4-4.

There’s not much to report with the point total. Las Vegas and Connecticut have a combined 9-7-1 record. They have the highest point total for Tuesday’s WNBA picks.

The WNBA betting odds have the Dallas Wings vs. Los Angeles Sparks as the closest matchup. Well, their betting trends are nearly even. Dallas is 5-3, while Los Angeles is 5-5.

How do things look with the point total? Both teams have three losses, but the Sparks’ seven wins give them the advantage.

Top WNBA Predictions for May 31st

  • Fever (+8.0) (-120)
  • Sky (-9.5) (-105)
  • Aces (-4.5) (-125)
  • Wings (+3.0) (+105)

My WNBA betting picks will feature the spread for Tuesday, May 31. It’s not necessarily who I think will win each matchup. That’s important to note as you make your WNBA picks.

The Indiana Fever haven’t had much to celebrate, holding a 3-7 record. However, we’ve seen them more competitive in their last two games.

Indiana nearly scored a road victory over the Chicago Sky. Then, they picked up a win over the Los Angeles Sparks. The Washington Mystics have been good, but they might struggle to defeat the Fever by 8+ points.

I might be wary of the Washington Mystics, but I have no problem backing the Chicago Sky with the (-9.5) point spread. It’s not as much about them as my lack of confidence in the Phoenix Mercury.

  • @ Aces: 100-80 (L)
  • @ Sparks: 99-94 (L)
  • @ Dream: 81-54 (L)

Phoenix only has one loss of fewer than 10 points.

The Connecticut Sun and Las Vegas Aces were the championship favorites in the preseason 2022 WNBA championship odds. It’s hard to ever pick against the Aces in my WNBA game picks.

Las Vegas has the best record in the league thanks to a dominant offense. Their one loss is the only time they didn’t win by at least six points.

The Dallas Wings being the underdog against the Los Angeles Sparks doesn’t make much sense. Dallas is 5-3 with wins over the Mystics and Sun. The Sparks have won two of their last three games, but they aren’t impressive wins.

I have no problem taking the value with the Wings. They should be a top pick in your WNBA predictions.

Best Bets for WNBA Games on 5/31/22

  • Mercury vs. Sky Over 163 Points (-110)
  • Sun vs. Aces Under 167 Points (-110)
  • Wings (+3.0) (+105)

The Phoenix Mercury made a surprise run to the 2021 WNBA Finals, but the 2022 season hasn’t been kind to them. A big reason for their struggles is their defense. Phoenix has allowed 88.4 points per game.

Unfortunately, it has much to do with the absence of Brittney Griner. Griner is a two-time Defensive Player of the Year, and led the league in blocks eight times.

The Chicago Sky are averaging over 80 points. Honestly, Phoenix’s offense hasn’t been bad, but their defense holds them back. I’m backing the offenses in the WNBA predictions.

There will be much hype surrounding the Connecticut Sun vs. Las Vegas Aces. They have the best records in the WNBA, but they also sport the best offense and defense in the league.

  • Las Vegas Aces: 92.1 points per game
  • Connecticut Sun: 73.1 points allowed per game

It’ll be interesting to see which unit will keep it going on Tuesday. Honestly, I’m expecting somewhere in the middle. The Aces’ defense has looked good lately, holding their last three opponents to 80 or fewer points. An 85-80 score would satisfy this prop.

We’ll cap off my WNBA picks with the Dallas Wings covering the spread against the Los Angeles Sparks. I touched on this earlier, but this spread doesn’t make much sense.

The only downside for the Wings is they’re playing on the road. Honestly, that doesn’t mean much, considering they’re 4-1 away from Dallas. They have a better record than Los Angeles.

Los Angeles has allowed 87.4 points per game. The Wings’ offense should take advantage of their struggles.
