Predictions and Picks for WNBA Games – July 31st, 2022

| July 31, 2022 8:22 am PDT

The final day of July brings another installment of my WNBA predictions. It’s hard to believe, but we’re only two weeks from the conclusion of the 2022 regular season.

The top five teams in the WNBA have clinched a playoff spot, but there’s a tight battle for the final three spots. There are six teams within two and a half games of each other. That battle should go down to the wire.

How will Sunday’s action affect the playoff picture? Let’s check out the WNBA betting odds.

WNBA Odds for Sunday, July 31st

  • Sky (+185) vs. Sun (-225), O/U 165.5
  • Mercury (-120) vs. Liberty (EVEN), O/U 167.5
  • Aces (-2200) vs. Fever (+1200), O/U 173.0
  • Storm (+120) vs. Mystics (-140), O/U 156.5
  • Lynx (-140) vs. Sparks (+120), O/U 167.0

The Connecticut Sun are hitting their stride, covering the spread in five of their last six games. We haven’t seen the same from the Chicago Sky, as they haven’t covered in four straight games. Both teams have favored the over lately, going a combined 6-1 in their last seven games.

The WNBA betting odds have the Phoenix Mercury vs. New York Liberty as the closest matchup. Phoenix has covered the spread in three of their last four games, but New York has only covered once in their previous five games.

Both teams have hovered around .500 with the point total.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bigger favorite than the Las Vegas Aces. The spread gives them a massive (-17.5) point edge. Will your WNBA picks consider wagering on the Indiana Fever?

Indiana covered a 17-point spread against Las Vegas on July 21 but suffered a 21-point loss on July 29.

The Seattle Storm are ahead of the Washington Mystics in the standings, but the WNBA odds give Washington the upper hand. Washington is 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 games and 19-11 overall. Seattle hasn’t been as strong, covering in two of their previous five games.

How will your WNBA game pick view the Minnesota Lynx vs. Los Angeles Sparks matchup? Minnesota is the road favorite, despite having a worse record.

Los Angeles is in a rough patch, covering the spread once in their last seven games. Minnesota has been much better lately, but overall, they have the better record against the spread.

Top WNBA Predictions for July 31st

  • Sun Over Sky
  • Mercury Over Liberty
  • Aces Over Sparks
  • Storm Over Mystics
  • Sparks Over Lynx

It’s not often you see the best team in the WNBA as a (+5.5) point underdog, but the Chicago Sky head into Sunday’s matchup without Candace Parker. It’s tough for my free WNBA picks to back Chicago without Parker.

Maybe if they were playing a bad team, but the Connecticut Sun has the third-best record.

The Phoenix Mercury hold the No. 7 spot in the WNBA, but the New York Liberty are only 2.5 games back. New York has shown flashes, but they’re 2-8 in their last 10 games. Sabrina Ionescu hasn’t been as effective.

  • Vs. Aces: 9 Points
  • @ Sun: 13 Points
  • @ Mystics: 15 points
  • Vs. Sky: 17 Points
  • Vs. Sky: 16 Points

Is anyone crazy enough to have the Indiana Fever winning outright on their WNBA predictions? Indiana is a sinking ship, losing 13 straight games. Two days ago, they suffered a 21-point home loss to the Las Vegas Aces.

Bettors could put a dollar or two on the Fever. You never know what might happen.

We’ll see a battle of playoff teams, with the Seattle Storm facing the Washington Mystics. Both teams clinched a playoff spot on Saturday, holding top five spots.

My WNBA betting pick has the Storm pulling the upset. Seattle is the road team, but they’re 2-0 against Washington in 2022.

It’s interesting to see the Minnesota Lynx open as the favorite. The Los Angeles Sparks host this game and have a better record. Perhaps it has something to do with Liz Cambage leaving the team.

Still, the Sparks have the better team. Nneka Ogwumike shouldn’t have an issue leading the Sparks to a win.

Best Bets for WNBA Games on 7/31/22

  • Chicago Sky (+5.5) (-110)
  • Las Vegas Aces Under 95.5 Points (-125)
  • Seattle Storm vs. Washington Mystics Under 156.5 Points (-110)

The Chicago Sky face an uphill battle without Candace Parker. She misses her second straight game with a non-COVID illness. Still, my WNBA game picks believe the Sky can keep it within six points.

Parker isn’t the sole reason the Sky have the best WNBA record. Kahleah Copper leads the team with 14.8 points per game, while Courtney Vandersloot is second in the WNBA with 6.3 assists per game.

Chicago won the first two matchups. My WNBA predictions believe they’ll keep it close.

We know there’s no value in taking the Las Vegas Aces on the moneyline. Do I dare fade the best offense against the league’s worst defense? It’s not a complete fade, but 95.5 points is a lot to ask for. Check out their points in two matchups with the Indiana Fever.

  • July 21: 90 Points
  • July 29: 93 Points

They’ve been close but haven’t cleared 95.5 points. It’s hard to see the Aces going 100 percent if this game is a blowout.

My free WNBA picks conclude with the Seattle Storm vs. Washington Mystics going under. I imagine this will be a popular pick, considering they allow the fewest points per game. Saying that, it’s no guarantee with a low point total.

The first two matchups between the Storm and Mystics featured 156 and 159 points. Part of me wonders if they’ll take it easy after clinching playoff spots. That could be enough for my WNBA betting picks to have the right choice.
