Predictions and Picks for WNBA Games – July 17th, 2022

| July 17, 2022 7:36 am PDT

My WNBA predictions finally had a good day, as we went 4-1 on Tuesday, July 12. I went for a value play with the Los Angeles Sparks, but they lost to the Washington Mystics. That was the only thing keeping me from a perfect day.

There will be four WNBA games on Sunday, July 17. That includes a matchup of the two top teams, featuring the Las Vegas Aces and Connecticut Sun.

WNBA Odds for Sunday, July 17th

  • Aces (-135) vs. Sun (+115), O/U 175.5
  • Lynx (+155) vs. Mystics (-180), O/U 161.0
  • Dream (+210) vs. Mercury (-250), O/U 159.5
  • Fever (+775) vs. Storm (-1500), O/U 160.5

The Las Vegas Aces and Connecticut Sun have been among the best teams in the WNBA throughout the season, but the betting trends haven’t been kind to either team.

Las Vegas is 3-11 against the spread in their last 14 games. Connecticut isn’t much better, failing to cover in six of their previous seven games. The WNBA betting odds have this as the closest matchup of the day.

Who isn’t struggling against the spread? Look no further than the Minnesota Lynx. They’ve covered the spread in nine of their last 11 games. The Washington Mystics have also been impressive, covering in five of their last six games.

Washington is 8-7 with the over/under following a 1-10 start. Minnesota has favored the over, holding a 13-10-3 mark.

The Atlanta Dream have been moving in the wrong direction. The WNBA odds reflect that, as they open as a (+6.0) point underdog to the Phoenix Mercury.

Neither team has been great against the spread. Atlanta has only covered twice in their last seven games, while Phoenix is 1-4 in their previous five. My WNBA predictions could take the point total, with the Dream going over in four of their last five games.

The WNBA betting odds won’t give you value for every matchup. The Seattle Storm head into Sunday’s matchup as a 14-point favorite over the Indiana Fever. There’s no value on the moneyline, but what about the spread?

Seattle has covered in six of their last nine games, including twice as a double-digit favorite over the Fever. Indiana is 2-6 in their last eight games.

Top WNBA Predictions for July 17th

  • Sun Over Aces
  • Mystics Over Lynx
  • Mercury Over Dream
  • Storm Over Fever

My WNBA betting picks start with an upset, as I’m taking the Connecticut Sun over the Las Vegas Aces. There is no shortage of stars in this matchup, as the updated 2022 WNBA MVP odds feature A’ja Wilson, Jonquel Jones, and Kelsey Plum.

Las Vegas has back-to-back wins after a 2-5 stretch, but they’re against the New York Liberty. New York has the second-worst record. I’m taking the Sun at home.

The Washington Mystics have been inconsistent following a 5-1 start. However, we’ve seen much better play from Elena Delle Donne lately.

She has 19+ points in three straight games. The Mystics already have one of the best defenses in the WNBA. They’ll be tough to beat with Delle Donne playing at the top of her game.

The Minnesota Lynx have looked better lately, but my WNBA picks like the Mystics at home.

The Atlanta Dream vs. Phoenix Mercury matchup is the most important of the day. Each team is on the playoff cutline, with Atlanta holding the final playoff spot. I’m taking the Mercury because of their recent records.

  • Atlanta Dream: 4-11 (6-3 Start)
  • Phoenix Mercury: 9-7 (2-8 Start)

Atlanta has one road victory since May 17. My WNBA game picks can’t back a team that struggles away from home.

Did you expect my free WNBA picks to go with the Indiana Fever? There’s no argument for picking the Fever. They have the worst record in the league at 5-21.

Meanwhile, the Seattle Storm have been surging. They started 5-5 but haven’t lost consecutive games since June 5. They’re 11-3 in their last 14 games, holding the fourth-best record. I wouldn’t recommend wagering on the Fever to win.

Best Bets for WNBA Games on 7/17/22

  • Las Vegas Aces Under 89.5 Points (-120)
  • Minnesota Lynx (+4.0) (-110)
  • Indiana Fever vs. Seattle Storm Under 160.5 (-110)

The Las Vegas Aces’ offense is on an unprecedented run. They’ve scored 107-108 points in three straight games while setting a WNBA record for most points in the first half. Will we see the same on Sunday?

Las Vegas has the best offense in the WNBA, but they face the top defense. That amazing stretch came against a New York Liberty team that allows 84.7 points per game.

The Connecticut Sun have allowed 90+ points once in their last nine games. They should hold the Aces offense under that mark.

My WNBA predictions have the Washington Mystics defeating the Minnesota Lynx. However, it wouldn’t surprise me if the Lynx kept it close. They’ve been much more competitive lately against the league’s top teams. Check out their recent stretch.

  • @ Chicago Sky: 88-85 (L)
  • Vs. Las Vegas Aces: 91-85 (L)
  • Vs. Las Vegas Aces: 102-71 (W)
  • Vs. Chicago Sky: 81-78 (W)

Minnesota manages to keep it close, even in losses. It’ll be tough to score a road victory over the Mystics, but the Lynx have enough firepower to keep it close.

My WNBA game picks had to find value with the Indiana Fever vs. Seattle Storm. You could explore the spread, but I feel more comfortable with the point total. This pick revolves around my lack of trust in the Fever’s offense.

The Fever have struggled on the road. They’ve cleared 75 points once in their last seven road games. They haven’t hit that mark in either game against the Seattle Storm.
