Prediction for White Sox vs. Yankees – Sunday, May 22nd, 2022
The Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees will conclude their three-game series Sunday night. New York scored a 7-5 victory on Saturday, with a doubleheader on the schedule for Sunday.
I should note this betting preview and pick will focus on the second game of the doubleheader.
New York has won four of its five games against Chicago this season. Their offense has been on full display, scoring 7+ runs in three victories. Will they do the same on Sunday night?
Let’s check out the odds for the White Sox vs. Yankees.
White Sox vs. Yankees Odds for May 22nd
It shouldn’t surprise anyone that the New York Yankees open as the favorite. After all, their 29-10 record is the best in the majors. Coincidentally, the only time in the last two weeks the Yankees were an underdog was against the Chicago White Sox.
New York and Chicago have hovered at .500 with the spread. New York’s 7-5 victory on Saturday moved them to 21-18, while Chicago dropped to 18-21.
Most people expected the Yankees and White Sox to have a dominant offense. Maybe the best MLB betting sites boost their run line because both teams have gone under their run total in over 53 percent of their games.
The White Sox don’t have any new injuries, but the Yankees will be without reliever Chad Green. He went on the IL with a forearm injury that will likely sideline him indefinitely. How will that impact the Yankees’ bullpen?
White Sox vs. Yankees Breakdown
The Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees entered the 2022 season with similar expectations. We expected the White Sox to run away with the AL Central while the Yankees would battle for the AL East title.
As we approach the season’s quarter pole, we’ve seen both teams move in different directions. Chicago hasn’t lived up to the hype, sitting four games behind the Minnesota Twins in the AL Central.
Meanwhile, New York has the best record in the majors. When that’s the case, it’s likely because your offense and pitching staff is firing on all cylinders.
- Runs Scored: 194 (4th)
- Runs Allowed: 120 (1st)
It’s tough to beat a team that doesn’t have many weaknesses. The pre-Opening Day 2022 World Series odds had the Yankees at (+1100). I hope you took advantage of the value because their odds might not be that high again this season.
I don’t want to be too tough on the White Sox because they’ve had many injuries. However, their offense has been one of the biggest disappointments.
Tim Anderson and Luis Robert look good, but what about Jose Abreu? He and Yasmani Grandal are hitting under .210 with 110+ plate appearances. Yoan Moncada and Eloy Jimenez have missed extended time, but neither player had great numbers.
We’ll have an exciting matchup on Sunday night as Michael Kopech faces Luis Severino. Check out their 2022 numbers.
|Michael Kopech (White Sox)||Luis Severino (Yankees)|
Michael Kopech has been better, allowing zero runs in four of his six starts. He only allowed one hit in six innings against the Yankees on May 15 but took the loss.
Luis Severino hasn’t been as consistent, but he has the potential to shut down the White Sox offense.
White Sox vs. Yankees Same Game Parlay
- Tim Anderson to Record a Hit (-290)
- Giancarlo Stanton to Record 2+ Hits (+320)
- Jose Abreu to Record an RBI (+135)
We’re going for a big value play in my Chicago White Sox vs. New York Yankees same game parlay. This parlay will give you over $1,100 on a $100 bet.
Everyone knows Chicago’s offense has struggled in 2022, but that hasn’t included Tim Anderson. His .350 batting average is third-best in the majors. Anderson has gone consecutive games without a hit once this season.
Anderson has 2+ hits in three straight games. He is 7-22 in five games against the Yankees in 2022. I considered adding 2+ hits to this same game parlay, but the other props provide value. Anderson should continue his hot streak with a hit.
Giancarlo Stanton has been a different player in May. He’s hitting .361 with seven home runs and 21 RBIs. Stanton has been on a tear against the White Sox.
- 3 home runs
- 9 RBIs
Stanton has 2+ hits in four of his five matchups against the White Sox. His improved plate discipline means pitchers have to give him pitches to hit. It doesn’t seem wise to bet against Stanton in May.
Jose Abreu hasn’t been playing up to expectations this season, hitting under .210 with four home runs. There might not be much hope for Abreu, but he has been great against Yankees starter Luis Severino.
Abreu is 6-14 with two doubles and three RBIs. This will be their first matchup since 2018, so that could affect things. I considered taking Abreu’s home run prop because he has hit one in three straight games at Yankee stadium.
Ultimately, I felt recording an RBI was the safer pick.
White Sox vs. Yankees Pick
Betting on the run total isn’t the flashiest move, but a few factors are in our favor. For starters, this will be the second game of a doubleheader, so neither team will play at full strength.
The New York Yankees have the better offense, but Michael Kopech held them to one hit in his last start. Honestly, I have little faith in the Chicago White Sox lineup. Luis Severino shouldn’t have an issue.
