Western United vs. Macarthur FC Betting Preview – A-League, February 20, 2021
Western United hosts Macarthur FC at Mars Stadium on Saturday, February 20, with the teams battling at opposite ends of the A-League ladder.
A three-match unbeaten streak has seen the Bulls climb to second in the standings – nine-point ahead of third-bottom United. Still, lit is worth noting that Mark Rudan’s side has three games in hand over Saturday’s opponent.
After checking out the betting odds, I will give my Western United vs. Macarthur FC prediction and pick.
Western United vs. Macarthur FC Odds
In-form Macarthur (2.95) currently holds a sizeable advantage over Western United (2.35), but 10bet still seems to think that United has the upper hand here.
Both sides have already tied a couple of games this season, making the high price for the draw (3.30) look pretty attractive at first glance.
Western United vs. Macarthur FC Match Analysis
A series of postponements means that Western United has only played five games this season, with some teams in the league already eight matches in their campaigns.
However, it’s fair to say that Mark Rudan’s men haven’t made the most of their opportunities.
The Green & Black’s sole victory this term came against Perth Glory last month, courtesy of a chaotic 5-4 win at GMHBA Stadium. But other than that, two draws and two defeats have seen United accumulate just five points.
Rudan’s side appeared to be heading for victory last time out. First-half goals from Tomislav Uskok and Besart Berisha saw United lead Central Coast for much of the match, but a late brace from Alou Kuol saw the Mariners snatch all three points.
It is no secret that scoring goals has been the Green & Black’s biggest problem this year. If Berisha and co. start hitting the target on a regular basis, the club should move up the ladder.
Meanwhile, Macarthur has been enjoying a hugely promising start to their maiden A-League campaign.
Two defeats in eight games have enabled the Bulls to cement second place in the standings, while a recent three-game unbeaten run has clearly given the team a big confidence boost.
Macarthur’s unbeaten streak started with a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Western Syndey Wanderers before the newcomers sealed an impressive 0-2 victory over Brisbane Roar. Last time out, Ante Milicic’s side crushed Adelaide United 4-0.
The Bulls enjoyed 67% possession and racked up 25 shots in a completely dominant display last weekend, with English forward Matt Derbyshire netting a second-half hat-trick before Mark Milligan completed the scoring.
If Milicic’s men pick up where they left off in the previous game, they will be difficult to stop on Saturday.
Western United vs. Macarthur FC Pick
Macarthur may be nine points ahead of Western United, but it is important to remember that the Bulls have already played three games more than the Green & Black.
Granted, United hasn’t started the season in spectacular fashion. But having burst onto the A-League scene last term, I can see Rudan’s side moving up the ladder in the coming weeks.
Ultimately, I think the draw is the best bet for this game. The two teams are relatively evenly matched, so I’m expecting the points to be shared on Saturday.
