Western United vs. Brisbane Roar – A-League, March 14, 2021
Just four points separate Western United and Brisbane Roar on the A-League ladder as the two sides prepare to do battle at AAMI Park on Sunday, March 14.
United currently trails Brisbane, although Mark Rudan’s team has a game in hand over the Roar. With both sides struggling for form at the moment, this is a tricky game to call.
Nevertheless, after looking at the bookmakers’ odds, I will share my Western United vs. Brisbane Roar prediction and betting pick.
Western United vs. Brisbane Roar Betting Odds
10bet views Western United (2.35) as the favorite to claim all three points on Sunday. But as you can see, the price for the home win is notably high here.
The Roar (2.80) have failed to win any of their previous five outings. However, with three draws coming in their last four games, Brisbane will be confident of getting something from this match.
Western United vs. Brisbane Roar Preview
Having netted 16 goals in just nine games, only three teams have scored more A-League goals than Western United this season. But with the same number in the goals against column, the Green & Black also have the fourth-worst defensive record in the division.
Rudan’s men started by losing just one of their seven matches this term, picking up four wins and two draws along the way. However, back-to-back defeats have halted the club’s progress.
United scored four goals in wins over Macarthur and Melbourne Victory last month, before failing to net in losses to the Wanderers and Sydney FC, making it extremely difficult to predict what kind of performance the home side will produce on Sunday.
Veteran striker Besart Berisha has notched up five goals and one assist this season, with Dylan Pierias and Victor Sachez also chipping in. It goes without saying that United will need Berisha to contribute this weekend.
There is no denying that Rudan’s men have been playing some attractive soccer this year, but they must discover some consistency in order to move up the standings.
On the topic of consistency – spare a thought for Brisbane.
The Queenslanders scored 13 goals across a four-game winning streak earlier in the campaign, seeing off Newcastle and Adelaide before securing two wins over Victory. But since then, it’s been all downhill.
Warren Moon’s men have failed to win any of their last five matches, recording three draws and two losses in the process. Worse still, they have only managed to score two goals in that time – firing a blank on three occasions.
Following a 3-1 defeat to Perth at the end of February, Brisbane managed to secure a 1-1 draw with Sydney FC last time out. Dylan Wenzel-Halls took his tally for the season to six goals and two assists in ten appearances, yet Bobo canceled out the youngster’s strike late on.
Thanks to a strong start to the campaign, the Roar are still in a strong position. But they can’t afford to make too many more slip-ups.
Western United vs. Brisbane Roar Prediction and Pick
In my eyes, neither team is currently playing well enough to stake a claim for a victory here. Brisbane hasn’t won in five, while United heads into Sunday’s showdown on the back of consecutive losses.
Having taken everything into consideration, the juicy price for the draw feels like the best option for this matchup. Both sides will be happy to avoid defeat this weekend, so I can see this one ending level.
