West Ham United vs. Tottenham Hotspur Betting Preview – EPL, February 21, 2021

It is not very often that these two sides meet up with West Ham in the driving seat. But David Moyes has got his Hammers playing very well recently, and Jose Mourinho will need a new game plan if Spurs is to prevail.

Tottenham did enjoy a comfortable Europa League fixture on Thursday, so even though the players have played an extra game, they should not be overly tired.

BetOnline does make West Ham the favorite here, but considering Tottenham’s recent form, I would have thought there would be more daylight between the two-win options. West Ham will be up for putting one over its old rival, and I think the home win bet price looks like good value here.

West Ham has only lost one game in the league since Christmas and only remains out of the Champions League places thanks to a poorer goal difference than Chelsea. There are not many that think that the Hammers can finish in the top four this season, but David Moyes is obviously doing something right.

There are a few injury worries – with Angelo Ogbonna still out, and Michail Antonio not completely match fit – but other squad players have stepped up in the past two months and will be ready to take on Spurs on Sunday. West Ham has scored three in three of its last five games, so will they be on the hunt for goals again.

That means that Jose Mourinho might want to rethink his usual tactic of allowing the opposition to have the ball and break on the counter. With a West Ham side enjoying scoring goals the way it is at the moment, that could be asking for trouble. It is not really in his nature to attack from the start – but that might be a better idea this weekend.

After four defeats in the last five EPL games – and a nondescript performance against Manchester City last time out – Tottenham’s players will have taken a lot from the convincing Europa League win the week. Whether this team can translate that dominance to the Premier League remains to be seen.

With Chelsea playing away from home on Saturday, West Ham could finish this weekend in a Champions League place. It would be totally deserved – and Spurs should probably be prepared for a battling encounter on Sunday. If it comes down to a scrap, I think that my money would be on West Ham to come out on top.
