West Ham United vs. Leicester City – English Premier League, April 11, 2021
There aren’t too many people that would have had this down as a top-four clash before the season began. Still, both clubs have looked very good this year and they might keep out more established Champions League clubs from qualifying by the end of the campaign.
West Ham, in particular, would be issuing a powerful statement of intent if it were able to record a win on Sunday.
West Ham United vs. Leicester City Odds
The bookmakers have this game very closely priced, but I am a little surprised that Leicester has been chosen as the favorite to win.
It should be a very close game between two entertaining teams, but I would probably have offered West Ham as the more likely to end up with three points, purely because of home advantage.
Previewing the Match
West Ham continues to defy expectations and now looks like seriously competing for a top-four finish this season – its first since 1986. The 3-2 win away at Wolves on Monday saw the Hammers climb back into the Champions League places after seeing how Chelsea and Spurs failed at the weekend.
Jesse Lingard was, once again, a huge positive for West Ham – and the club seems to be in the position of making an offer to Manchester United to take the attacking midfielder on a permanent basis in the summer.
Leicester is just four points ahead of West Ham now, after losing at home to Manchester City over the weekend. Brendan Rodgers used the same tactics that worked so well at the start of the season against the league leaders. This time around, the outcome was much different, as City easily won by two goals to nil in a game that Leicester hardly played any part in.
The result shouldn’t trouble Rodgers too much, as his side has been consistently good this season, not once dropping out of the top-four all through the campaign. That is unlikely to happen now, with just eight games to go. But Leicester does find itself up against one of the real form sides of the EPL this weekend – and another defeat may well be on the cards.
West Ham United vs. Leicester City Prediction and Pick
West Ham United to Win+187
I think West Ham’s elevation in the Premier League over the last few months has been one of the most refreshing elements of the current campaign.
Leicester is already taking away one of the Champions League places from a club that may feel like it has a right to finish in the top-four. West Ham is ripping that rulebook up still further – and David Moyes should be celebrating another three points this Sunday.
