West Bromwich Albion vs. Leicester City – EPL, September 13, 2020

West Brom has become the archetypal yo-yo club in recent seasons and it is not surprising that pundits have the Baggies to go straight back down again at the end of the campaign.

To kick the season off Slaven Bilic’s men welcome Leicester City to The Hawthorns in what looks like being an intriguing fixture.

West Bromwich Albion to Win +279
The Draw +244
Leicester City to Win -106

If fans were allowed inside the stadiums at the current time I would expect MyBookie to have a little more faith in West Brom to start of the season on a positive note. But with that advantage taken away, this does look like a tough fixture to start the Premier League campaign. Leicester looks like good value to take the points here.

West Bromwich Albion vs. Leicester City Match Preview

Slaven Bilic has either decided not to add to his squad in the offseason – or was not allowed the funds – but West Brom fans will be disappointed that the only permanent signings were of players that performed well on loan last season. Both Matheus Pereira and Grady Diangana should do well in the Premier League but I would have expected more new arrivals.

It will be interesting to see whether the poor form shown by the Baggies at the end of last season was purely down to the fact that promotion was virtually assured, or if there is something else going on at the club. As a new Premier League club, West Brom already has a mountain to climb just to stay up and a good start is vital.

Leicester hardly covered itself in glory towards the end of last season either but Brendan Rodgers has his team playing in a very effective way that can deal with anything that the English top flight throws at it. Losing Ben Chilwell looked like being a blow, but the signing of Timothy Castagne from Atalanta should make up for that.

The Foxes missed out on Champions League soccer on the final day of the season and will now have to navigate the Europa League schedule as it attempts to consolidate itself as one of the top sides in the Premier League. A strong defensive ethos helps with that and Leicester should do well again this year.

Prediction and Betting Pick

  • Leicester City to Win

West Brom will likely be battling against relegation for most of the season once again – as the gulf between the first and second tiers of English soccer is huge. Leicester is not the kind of team you want to meet on the first day of the season and this should finish as an away win.
