Wellington Phoenix vs. Adelaide United – A-League, April 25, 2021

Wellington and Adelaide meet in Wollongong on Sunday, April 25, with both teams enjoying a positive run of results.

The Nix have taken seven points from their previous three outings, securing victories over Western United and Perth along the way. The Reds are also on a three-match unbeaten streak, picking up one win and two draws this month.

Before sharing my Wellington Phoenix vs. Adelaide United prediction and betting pick, I assess the odds and look at both sides’ recent form.

As you can see, 10bet is struggling to separate these two. Wellington (2.45) is the narrow favorite, although Adelaide (2.55) isn’t far behind.

The Nix currently trails Adelaide by eight points on the A-League ladder. However, both sides are playing well at the moment, so the hefty price for the draw (3.90) stands out at first glance.

Let’s take a closer look at the teams.

It is no secret that Ufuk Talay’s men have struggled for consistency throughout 2020/21. But recently, they appear to have established a rhythm.

Across their first 15 games this season, the Nix suffered eight defeats – picking up four wins and three draws in the process. However, they have since won two of their last three matches and managed to seal a draw with Western United on Thursday.

Despite sitting fourth from bottom in the standings, Talay’s men are the third-highest scorers in the league.

Things aren’t going so well at the other end of the pitch, as only two sides have conceded more goals than Wellington this term. Still, the team’s all-round game seems to be improving with every passing week.

The New Zealanders are now just three points outside the top six. Qualifying for the Finals Series will be tough, although it is very much achievable.

Following a mammoth six-game winning streak across February and March, the Reds have only managed to win one of their last four outings. But they have only lost once in that time, too.

Adelaide racked up 19 shots en route to beating Macarthur 3-1 last week, with goals from Tomi Juric, Craig Goodwin, and Ben Halloran sealing the deal. In Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Sydney FC, Juric got on the scoresheet again, while Goodwin posted two assists.

Since returning to the club, Goodwin’s impact has been nothing short of immense. The winger has bagged five goals and five assists in nine appearances, enabling top-scorer Juric to notch up seven goals.

Looking at the bigger picture, Carl Veart’s men have only lost one of their previous ten matches – accumulating seven wins along the way.

The Reds now find themselves level with second-place Central Coast and just one point behind first-place Melbourne City, making them genuine premiership contenders.

Adelaide may sit eight points ahead of Wellington on the A-League ladder, but there is very little to separate the teams at the moment.

Having taken everything into consideration, I’m going with the draw for my Wellington Phoenix vs. Adelaide United betting pick.

The odds of 3.90 just seem too good to miss!
