Wednesday’s NBA Predictions and Betting Tips (May 12, 2021)

| May 12, 2021 5:34 am PDT

The NBA keeps trucking along on Wednesday, as six games roll out on May 12th, 2021. It’s a nice compact schedule in what will be a turbulent week.

Several star players are returning to full strength and love it or hate it, the NBA play-in tournament (and the 2021 NBA playoffs in general) is right around the corner.

I won’t look too far ahead, of course, as Wednesday still gives sports bettors plenty of chances to cash in. To find the best spots to target, join me for Wednesday’s NBA betting picks and predictions breakdown.

NBA Predictions for Wednesday, May 12th

  • Wizards to beat Hawks
  • Celtics to beat Cavaliers
  • Nets to beat Spurs
  • Mavericks to beat Pelicans
  • Jazz to beat Blazers
  • Lakers to beat Rockets

Some of the games on this slate look easy to peg. I don’t see the Nets losing at home to the Spurs, Boston should destroy the Cavs, Dallas looks like a good bet to take out the Pels, and there’s no reason the Lakers should lose to Houston.

Those games should make for winnable moneyline bets, but the pricing there will surely be gross. Obviously, you’re likely going to be forced to hit up the spreads or game totals there—I’ll get back to that in a bit if any of those bets stand out.

Things get a bit dicey with the other contests, but I like the Wizards to get past the Hawks. They were very close to doing so on Monday but lost by one.

Hey, at least Russell Westbrook made history, though.

That game was also without Bradley Beal. I like Washington’s chances in this matchup whether he plays or not, but betting on the Wiz prior to Beal’s return being announced could be advantageous.

The other game that could be tough to figure out is Utah vs. Portland.

The Jazz are still trying to secure the top seed in the west, but they’re without their two best guards. They’re at home and have the incentive to win, though, so it’ll be hard to get me off of them.

They’ve also been playing really well despite not being 100%, so it’d take tempting money to get me onto the Blazers. Keep in mind that Portland is trying to avoid the play-in tourney, though.

NBA Upset Picks for Wednesday

  • Wizards (+6) -110

Pricing isn’t out for every game as I write this, so I’m just working with what the top NBA betting apps are giving me.

Right now, that’s Washington at a really nice price. Obviously, betting on the Wizards to beat this six-point spread is safer, especially since they only lost by one in their last game against this same Hawks squad.

However, the Wizards also nearly won that game, and they have the pace and offensive upside to finish the job in another try on Wednesday night.

If they get Beal back in the fold, I’d like them even more. It’s probably wise to hop on them sooner rather than later, of course, as an announced Beal return would see this price take a hit.

Best NBA Bets for Wednesday, May 12th

  • Wizards vs. Hawks Over 239.5 (-110)

You know I like the Wizards ATS and straight up, too, so really, you have three bets to ride with already. The best one has to be the Over in this game, though.

Bettors got a really good look at how this matchup plays out on Monday when the two sides battled to an intense 125-124 finish.

Washington has also been on fire lately. They’re 6-4 over their last 10 games, but they’ve also put up 122+ points in seven consecutive games.

The Wizards run the fastest offense in the NBA, and the Over is 36-33 in their games this year. Considering they haven’t really been all that good for a good chunk of the year (and their totals are always obscene), that’s arguably much more impressive than it seems.

Ultimately, I expect plenty of points here. I think the Wiz can get the upset and will contribute to the Over easily. If you want to play it safe, just hammer Washington at +6 at your favorite NBA sportsbooks.
