Following La Liga’s loss to Barcelona in late September, Villarreal went nine consecutive games without a defeat and is on a four-game winning streak. The Yellow Submarine is at the top of their Europa League group with nine points from three matches, while they are second in La Liga with 18 points, two behind the leaders Real Sociedad.

Real Madrid, on the other hand, was in a good run of four games without a loss and beat Barcelona and Inter Milan in that span, but then suffered a devastating 4-1 road loss to Valencia in La Liga. Los Galacticos dropped to 4th place with 16 points, two behind Villarreal but with a game in hand.

Villarreal Team News and Stats

Villarreal lost only once in all competitions this season (W8, D3, L1), though two of those four matches drawn/lost came against rivals from last campaign’s top three. Yet, for the benefit of optimistic Villarreal fans hoping for a quick start, the Yellow Submarine led by a one-goal difference at the half-hour mark in the previous three of those victories.

The hosts are on a run of 4+ straight La Liga home wins for the first time since the autumn of 2016. Following the end of that run (five matches), each of the six losses in the following 20-game La Liga home span (W10, D4, L6) curiously yielded either a 2-0 or 3-2 result.

Unai Emery will be without Juan Foyth (muscle) and Alberto Moreno (knee), while Jaume Costa is questionable to feature on Saturday.

Real Madrid Team News and Stats

Amid two losses in four La Liga matches, one of which was a heavy defeat on the road last round when hot favorites, Real Madrid nonetheless won 60.0% of their away league games entered as favorites since the start of 2019/20, additionally keeping the net intact in the second half in five of seven La Liga away wins attained since the start of June. Four of those victories also saw Real score a goal from the penalty kick.

Half of Real’s previous six La Liga wins at Villarreal have seen one half provide no goals either way. Four of the five latest victories in that group of six wins saw them winning at both halftime and fulltime, though this has been the case in only 40% of their last five La Liga wins against all opponents (HT: W2, D2, L1).

Zinedine Zidane has a lot of injury-related problems for this clash with Villarreal. He cannot count on Dani Carvajal (knee), Casemiro (illness), Eden Hazard (illness), Eder Militao (illness), Nach (thigh), Alvaro Odriozola (calf), Sergio Ramos (thigh), Federico Valverde (shin), and Raphael Varane (thigh). Karim Benzema is questionable to face Villarreal due to a groin injury.

Villarreal vs. Real Madrid Betting Pick

  • Villarreal to win or draw

Real Madrid won four of the previous ten H2H encounters (D4, L2), including two of the last three (D1), while the past three meetings at Estadio de la Ceramica finished with an identical 2-2 result. Zidane’s side is going to be seriously weakened in this one and I would be surprised if they beat the in-form Villarreal. They are missing nearly an entire defense, and I think they could be happy with a point from this clash.

I am not going to back Villarreal, though, but I am going to back them on double chance.
