Vancouver Whitecaps vs. LA Galaxy – MLS, June 23, 2021

| June 23, 2021 8:48 am PDT

The Whitecaps (2-1-5) will be desperate to snap a terrible run of five defeats in six games when they come up against the Galaxy (5-0-3) at RSL’s Rio Tinto Stadium this Wednesday, June 23.

Vancouver has slipped to second-bottom in the Western Conference following the recent slump. At the opposite end of the standings, Greg Vanney’s men are fourth – eight points clear of the Caps.

If you’re looking for a prediction and betting pick for Vancouver Whitecaps vs. LA Galaxy, you’ve come to the right place! Let’s start by analyzing the teams before checking out the odds.

Why LA Galaxy Should Beat the Whitecaps

It’s fair to say that Vancouver made a solid start to the season. Marc Dos Santos’ men lost just one of their opening four matches, picking up wins over Portland and Montreal, along with a draw against Toronto.

Not only have the Whitecaps lost each of their previous four games, but they have also conceded nine goals along the way. That would be okay if they were scoring goals. However, they have managed to find the back of the net on just two occasions since their last victory.

With that in mind, you probably won’t be surprised to learn the Dos Santos’ men are the second-lowest scorers in the Western Conference. Having conceded 12 goals, they also have one of the worst defensive records in the division.

If it weren’t for Cristian Dajome’s three goals this year, the Caps would almost certainly be in a worse position. DP Lucas Cavallini – Vancouver’s star forward – has only bagged one goal in eight appearances this term.

Strangely, the Galaxy has actually conceded more goals than Vancouver in 2021. In fact, Vanney’s men have let in over 1.5 goals in five of their eight matches this year.

But while the Whitecaps have only managed to score seven times this season, the Californians have hit the target on 12 occasions. Neither side is defensively solid at the moment, yet the Galaxy’s attacking firepower gives them a significant edge.

It goes without saying that Chicharito is the team’s danger man. The Mexican striker has notched seven goals and two assists in eight games this term, meaning he is averaging a goal involvement every 78 minutes.

If Chicharito’s teammates can match his level, the Galaxy should be able to stick around at the top end of the Western Conference for the duration of the campaign.

Vancouver Whitecaps vs. LA Galaxy Odds

Vancouver Whitecaps to Win2.80
The Draw3.40
LA Galaxy to Win2.45

The prices for this matchup don’t make a lot of sense to me. Granted, the Galaxy deserves the favorite tag. But I’m not sure why the odds gap is so small here.

Considering that Vancouver has lost five of their previous six games, the high price for the Galaxy win feels extremely generous.

Prediction and Picks for Whitecaps vs. LA Galaxy

  • Prediction: LA Galaxy to Win (odds of 2.45)

Given that you can more than double your money by backing the Galaxy to win on Wednesday, opting for the away win makes perfect sense.

Vanney’s men suffered a narrow 2-1 loss to high-flying Seattle last weekend, despite seeing 60% of the ball. If they put in a similar performance against Vancouver, they should claim all three points with ease.

  • Top Pick: Chicharito to Score Anytime (odds of 2.15)

I also recommend backing Chicharito to extend his phenomenal scoring streak on Wednesday. The Galaxy forward has bagged seven goals in his last eight outings, so he could easily hit the target against the Caps.
