Vancouver Whitecaps vs. Houston Dynamo – MLS, July 20, 2021

| July 19, 2021 9:51 am PDT

Fresh from securing a much-needed victory over LA Galaxy, the Whitecaps will aim to record back-to-back wins for the very first time this season when they face Houston on Wednesday, July 20.

Although Vancouver snapped an eight-game winless run at the weekend, they remain second from bottom in the Western Conference – three points behind ninth-place Houston.

Read on to find my Vancouver Whitecaps vs. Houston Dynamo prediction and betting pick.

Vancouver Must Build On Saturday’s Win

It is no exaggeration to say that Vancouver was in a real mess before meeting the Galaxy on Saturday. I mean, Marc Dos Santos’ men are still in a poor position. But last weekend’s win has given them fresh hope.

The Caps headed into the weekend on a dismal run of six losses and two draws, with their previous wins coming all the way back in early May. Thankfully, they managed to claim all three points last time out.

They thoroughly deserved the win, too. Second-half goals from Deiber Caicedo and Cristian Dajome saw them come from behind to seal the victory, while they ended up finishing the game on the front foot.

When you look at the bigger picture, the Canadians have only managed to win three of their 13 MLS outings this year. As a result, they also have the joint-worst defensive record in the West.

But if they can rediscover the kind of form that saw them take seven points from their opening four matches, the British Columbians should start climbing the ladder.

Will Houston Return to Winning Ways?

The Dynamo also made a promising start to the season, losing just two of their first seven games while picking up three wins and two draws in the process. But it’s been all downhill since then.

After losing to Sporting Kansas City at the end of May, Houston registered four consecutive draws before suffering a 2-0 defeat to Seattle in their previous encounter.

Having taken just four points from a possible 18 since their last victory, Tab Ramos’ men need to turn things around pretty quickly.

Scoring goals hasn’t been an issue for the Texans. In fact, they have found the back of the net more times than six teams in the West. But if they want to stop the rot, they must stop conceding so many goals.

With six goals to his name, Maxi Urruti has netted almost half of Houston’s goals this term. It goes without saying that his attacking teammates will need to start contributing sooner rather than later.

Whitecaps vs. Dynamo Betting Odds

Vancouver Whitecaps to Win2.55
The Draw3.60
Houston Dynamo to Win2.60

As you can see, 10bet can barely separate these two. Vancouver (2.55) is the marginal favorite, although Houston (2.60) is just behind. Could the draw (3.60) be the way to go here?

The teams have played 26 games between them this season, yet they have only notched a combined total of six wins. With nine draws and 11 losses coming in that time, it could be difficult for either side to assert their dominance on Tuesday.

Vancouver vs. Houston Betting Pick

Pick
  • The Draw
    3.60

Having analyzed both sides, I believe the draw is the best bet for Vancouver Whitecaps vs. Houston Dynamo. There really is very little between the teams at the moment – and odds of 3.60 are seriously attractive, right?

Yes, Vancouver claimed a shock win last time out. But Houston has also claimed some notable scalps this year. At the end of the day, I can see the two strugglers canceling each other out on Tuesday.
