Valladolid vs. Athletic Bilbao – La Liga, November 8, 2020
Valladolid entered the 2020-21 La Liga season with high hopes, but the White and Violets are sitting bottom of the standings at the moment.
With Athletic Bilbao coming to town Sunday, November 8, things are not getting easier for Valladolid, and I expect to see a great game at Estadio Jose Zorrilla with the kick-off at 12:30 PM ET.
Hereof, I’m breaking down the odds and teams’ form to get the best Valladolid vs. Athletic Bilbao betting pick, as the Spanish La Liga goes on with Matchday 9.
Valladolid vs. Athletic Bilbao Odds
While the bottom-placed White and Violets are slight dogs in this one, the bookies won’t be surprised with any possible outcome.
Over the last two seasons and four head-to-head duels, each team has been victorious once along with a couple of draws. Last season, Athletic dismantled Valladolid 4-1 at Estadio Jose Zorrilla, while the clash in Bilbao was finished in a 1-1 stalemate.
Valladolid vs. Athletic Bilbao Preview
Valladolid is still winless, tallying three draws and five losses through the first five rounds, so their head coach Sergio will be under huge pressure Sunday. His team dropped four of its previous five contests, scoring just three goals in that span.
The White and Violets have a 5:13 goal difference, as five different players netted once each. They lost two straight home games to Eibar 2-1 and Alaves 2-0, and Valladolid failed to keep its net intact in all four outings at home this season.
On the other side, Athletic Bilbao is pretty much a hit-or-miss this term, sitting at the 11th spot of the La Liga standings with nine points and a record of three wins and four losses.
The Lions won two of their last three games overall, but they dropped three of their four road contests without scoring. Bilbao’s previous two road outings ended in a 1-0 defeat at Alaves and Osasuna.
On paper, Athletic can count on some very good players. However, Inaki Williams, Iker Muniain, and Raul Garcia combined for only a couple of goals and assists.
The Lions will miss their starting left-back Yuri Berchiche this Sunday. Valladolid is coming in full strength.
Valladolid vs. Athletic Bilbao Pick
Double Chance Valladolid 1X-164
Bilbao is coming off a big 2-1 home win over Sevilla in Matchday 8. The Lions overcame a 1-0 deficit with a couple of late second-half goals, but they were pretty lucky to limit their rivals to just one score.
As I’ve mentioned, the Lions are pretty unpredictable. Their record and a 6:7 goal difference tell you just enough.
On the other side, Valladolid desperately needs a victory, but I think the hosts would be satisfied with a draw, too. They are coming off a 2-0 loss at Villarreal, showing a lot of defensive flaws while hitting the post twice.
I expect Valladolid to improve, especially on the offensive end. The White and Violets have missed so many scoring chances so far and will have to start finding the net frequently at some point.
Therefore, I’m backing Valladolid to stay undefeated in this one. Even if their defense struggles once more, the hosts should have enough firepower to avoid a loss and try to turn their campaign around.
