Picks and Predictions for the USFL Games for Week 9 (2022)

Just like that we are entering Week 9 of the 2022 USFL season. This year has seemingly flown by and it’s been very fun all around. With that being said, it’s crunch time for the teams who still have a shot at making the playoffs.

Some teams have been incredible this year and can basically cruise the rest of the way. That would be the Birmingham Stallions, who are having a perfect season at 8-0. The New Jersey Generals are right behind them at 7-1 and are on a 7-game winning streak themselves.

Let’s take a look at the USFL odds for Week 9 to see which teams are favored to win.

The first matchup of the week is between the 7-1 Generals and the 1-7 Panthers. It’s no surprise to see the Generals as huge favorites just by looking at the records for each team. It was a low scoring matchup the last time these two teams faced off, but the Generals ended up winning the game 10-6.

Birmingham is the heaviest favorite of the week, which ends up being by 13 points. They are still undefeated after a hard fought win last week against the Breakers. This week they play the 1-7 Gamblers who they beat 33-28 in Week 2 earlier this year.

The Breakers demolished the Bandits 34-3 in Week 2 earlier this season, so I’m a bit surprised to not see them as a heavier favorite. Maybe that will allow us to capitalize on some good pricing for this week.

It’s also the most important game on the schedule, as the 5-3 Breakers are a game ahead of the 4-4 Bandits with just 2 weeks left for the regular season. This is basically a playoff game for the Bandits, who could miss the playoffs if they don’t win here.

The Stars lit up the scoreboard in their last win over the Panthers by scoring a whopping 46 points. They’ll look to keep the points coming in this week’s matchup against the Maulers, who they beat 30-23 in Week 2 as well.

These are going to be my USFL predictions for who wins each game in Week 9.

The Generals have only lost 1 game this year and it was to the undefeated Breakers in Week 1. Since then, they’ve won 8 games in a row and have established themselves as the top team in the North Division.

Michigan is tied for last with the Maulers at 1-7 in the North, as they’ll be looking towards next season. It was a close game the last time these two teams played, but the Generals have proven to be the superior team in 2022.

Talking about superior teams, the Stallions should have an easy matchup with the Gamblers this week. The Gamblers just have one win this season and it was against the Panthers, which isn’t exactly impressive.

They don’t usually get blown out, but it’s hard to say if a 1-7 team is capable of beating an 8-0 team.

The Breakers and Bandits have the most important game of the week across the league and I have the Breakers winning this one. Not only did they win the first head to head matchup, they dominated the Bandits. A 34-3 win was enormous and proved that they were on another level compared to Tampa Bay.

The Maulers are the league’s worst team this year, so I have the Stars winning their 4th game in a row as well.

Also be sure to keep an eye on inactives this late in the season when making your USFL picks. A team could opt for rest considering their current spot in the standings.

Here are my best USFL predictions from a bettor’s perspective for Week 9.

The Generals should definitely have the upper hand against the Panthers, but they only beat them by 4 in their first game. Michigan’s offense was also pretty terrible coming out the gate and they’ve improved since then.

If the Panthers can keep it close with the Generals again, they should be able to cover their spread.

The Gamblers are another team who were within striking distance the last time they played their Week 9 opponent. They only lost by 5 points the last time they played Birmingham, so a 13 point spread seems like a bit much.

Once the Stallions grab a large lead, they might start to take their foot off the gas. That would allow the Gamblers to stay within two touchdowns, like they did in Week 2.

The Breakers’ record would also look better right now if they didn’t have to play the league’s best team in 2 of their 10 games. New Orleans should be able to beat the Bandits again and a 3 point spread seems a little too generous.

Philadelphia just scorched the Panthers and scored 46 points in Week 8. The Maulers’ highest scoring game in 2022 was exactly half that (23 points in Week 2). Pittsburgh’s consistently losing by large totals, so they just don’t make sense to rely on.
