Picks and Predictions for the USFL Games for Week 8 (2022)

| May 31, 2022 11:24 am PDT

There are only a couple of weeks left of this season of the USFL. It’s been a fun year so far and a winner is going to be crowned pretty soon. With that being said, these last few weeks of the regular season are going to be crucial.

This is also the first week of the season where teams will play each other for the second time. There’s a couple of games that might be lopsided, but there’s also a couple of ones with major importance.

Let’s go ahead and take a look at the USFL’s betting lines for Week 8.

USFL Odds for Week 8

  • Pittsburgh Maulers (+320) vs. New Jersey Generals (-430), O/U 43
  • New Orleans Breakers (+145) vs. Birmingham Stallions (-170), O/U 44
  • Michigan Panthers (+220) vs. Philadelphia Stars (-270), O/U 47.5
  • Houston Gamblers (+190) vs. Tampa Bay Bandits (-230), O/U 44.5

Here are Week 8’s USFL odds from the best betting sites for the USFL.

The first game will be on Friday this week (8:00 p.m ET), which also has the heaviest favorite of any game in the New Jersey Generals. You can basically just look at the records to see why the odds are like this.

Pittsburgh has struggled massively this season, coming into Week 8 at just 1-6. They played the Generals in Week 4 and lost 21-13. The spread for this game is set at 8.5 points, which isn’t a surprise considering last game.

The closest game in terms of betting lines for this week is going to be the Breakers taking on the Stallions. This is going to be the best matchup of the week, as New Orleans (5-2) looks to take down Birmingham (7-0).

Birmingham is just a 3 point favorite, as they won the first matchup in Week 3 22-13.

Philadelphia is favored to beat Michigan by 6 points in Week 8 as well. The Stars have been more impressive than the Panthers this season at 4-3, compared to just 1-6.

Another 1-6 team is the Houston Gamblers, who take on the Bandits this week. Tampa Bay’s 3-4, as they’ve been somewhat of a disappointment this year.

USFL Predictions for Week 8 of the 2022 Season

  • New Jersey Generals Over Pittsburgh Maulers
  • New Orleans Breakers Over Birmingham Stallions
  • Michigan Panthers Over Philadelphia Stars
  • Tampa Bay Bandits Over Houston Gamblers

After losing Week 1’s game against the Stallions, the New Jersey Generals have gone on a 6-game winning streak. They’ve also already beaten the Pittsburgh Maulers back in Week 4 to a score of 21-13.

Both Generals’ quarterbacks combined for 20 of 24 passes completed (83.3%) and 200 yards with a touchdown. Kyle Lauletta was just 15/32 (46.9%) in that game, but he’s been released. Pittsburgh’s struggles are well documented and they should have a tough time against one of the league’s best teams in New Jersey.

Speaking of the league’s best teams, the Stallions and the Breakers will clash again. Their first matchup was in Week 3 with Birmingham winning 22-13. There’s a real chance that Birmingham loses their first game of the season here.

The Breakers were up 13-10 entering the 4th quarter, but ended up blowing the lead. They just might be able to pull off the upset if they play just a bit sharper this time around.

Michigan played one of their best games of the year against Philadelphia earlier this year. If it wasn’t for their 4 turnovers, they could have won the game. They actually missed a 21-yard field goal that would have won the game with 3 seconds left.

Maybe this time they don’t turn the ball over so much and make easy field goals.

Tampa Bay was able to beat out Houston 27-26 in Week 3 this season and should have the upper hand again. The Bandits have been inconsistent this year, but the Gamblers have been even worse.

Best USFL Bets to Target for Week 8 (2022)

New Jersey Generals -8.5-110
New Orleans Breakers +3-110
Michigan Panthers +6-110
Houston Gamblers vs. Tampa Bay Bandits Over 44.5-110

For my best USFL bets for Week 8, I have gone with these 4 options.

First, the New Jersey Generals should be in a perfect position to extend their winning streak to 7 games. They won by 8 points the last time they faced the Maulers and could improve on that here.

New Jersey even missed two field goals in the fourth quarter in that game, so they could have easily won by 14. The Generals are the better team here and Pittsburgh’s -72 point differential is the worst in the league by far.

I think the Breakers’ moneyline in plus odds has some value to it, but their +3 spread has a higher chance of hitting. Like I said earlier, they had a good chance to win against the Stallions in the first game. Now that they know what mistakes they made, they can adjust and possibly win this one (or at least cover).

The Panthers lost by just 1 point that last time they played the Stars, so the 6 point spread seems odd here. That could just mean we have an even better chance of hitting on this bet. Michigan’s 1-6 record isn’t pretty, but they always seem to stay in games.

For my last bet, I am going with the over in the Gamblers and Bandits game. The first time they played they combined for 53 points (27-26, Bandits). That should mean reaching 45 points in this game is very possible.
