Picks and Predictions for the USFL Games for Week 4, 2022

| May 3, 2022 7:42 pm PDT

The USFL season is flying by as we are already heading Week 4 of the 2022 season. It’s been a fun ride so far and we are already almost at the halfway point of the regular season. With that being said, there have been some teams who have impressed us so far and teams that haven’t.

The Birmingham Stallions took the 1st place crown in the standings last week after their impressive win over the New Orleans Breakers. They remain undefeated at 3-0, while the Breakers, Bandits, and Generals are right behind them at 2-1 apiece.

Will the Stallions continue their early reign on the 2022 USFL season, or will someone dethrone them soon?

Let’s take a look at the USFL odds for Week 4 before we make our predictions.

USFL Odds for Week 4 (2022)

  • Philadelphia Stars (-105) vs. Michigan Panthers (-115), O/U 36.5
  • New Jersey Generals (-420) vs. Pittsburgh Maulers (+315), O/U 35.5
  • Tampa Bay Bandits (+155) vs. Birmingham Stallions (-180), O/U 41
  • Houston Gamblers (+170) vs. New Orleans Breakers (-200), O/U 41.5

Here are the odds for each of the games for Week 4. First, we have a dead even matchup between the Philadelphia Stars and Michigan Panthers. Both teams are 1-2 heading into this week, so they’ll be looking to get a game ahead of the other since they are both in the North Division.

Michigan is coming off a great 24-0 win over the Pittsburgh Maulers for their first win of the season, while Philadelphia came up short 24-16 against New Jersey.

New Jersey will now take on Pittsburgh and are the heaviest favorite of the week. Pittsburgh is now 0-3 on the year and have yet to show us some real improvement. They hit rock bottom last week, so maybe that will motivate them to step it up.

The Generals have been solid at 2-1 coming into this game, so it’s no surprise to see them heavily favored to win. The 9.5 point spread is very high considering the closeness of most of these games.

Tampa Bay and Birmingham should be a great matchup this week. The Bandits are 2-1 and are coming off a narrow 1 point victory over Houston last week. They face an even tougher challenge in the undefeated Stallions, who just beat the Breakers.

The Breakers destroyed Tampa Bay 34-3, so the Stallions definitely have the upper hand for this one.

The last game will be Houston (1-2) taking on New Orleans (2-1). To find these USFL odds for Week 4, you’ll want to head over to Bovada.

USFL Predictions for Who Wins in Week 4

  • Michigan Panthers Over Philadelphia Stars
  • New Jersey Generals Over Pittsburgh Maulers
  • Birmingham Stallions Over Tampa Bay Bandits
  • New Orleans Breakers Over Houston Gamblers

Although I am not a fan of Michigan’s offense, their defense has been incredible through the first 3 weeks. They have allowed just 19 total points for an average of 6.3 per game. Holding your opponent to less than a touchdown per game is absurd.

The Stars’ quarterback in Bryan Scott is banged up, so his Week 4 status could be in danger. If that’s the case, Michigan’s defense could be in for a huge day and lead them to their second win in a row.

New Jersey is such a heavy favorite to win for a reason. The Generals are leading the league in yardage with 375 yards per game. They do most of their damage on the ground at over 200 yards a clip (201.7).

Pittsburgh has allowed the second most points per game in the USFL (20.7), so they should be in for a tough game.

Since Birmingham just beat New Orleans and New Orleans obliterated Tampa Bay, that means Birmingham should have a strong chance of winning. Although, Tampa Bay is a solid team overall and could make things interesting here.

Houston’s strength is their offense, who faces a massive challenge against the Breakers. New Orleans ranks 2nd in points allowed per game (13.3), while leading the league in sacks (11).

The Gamblers’ weak defense will be put on full display and won’t be able to keep pace with New Orleans. Defense wins championships and Houston is going to figure that out for themselves this week.

Best USFL Bets to Target for Week 4 of the 2022 Season

Michigan Panthers to Win-115
Tampa Bay Bandits vs. Birmingham Stallions Over 41-110
New Orleans Breakers -4.5-110

The status of Stars’ QB Bryan Scott is important for the Panthers game, but I still think they’ll win if he suits up. If he misses practice time throughout the week, he won’t be as sharp against the league’s best defense currently.

Michigan’s offense has not impressed in 2022, but Philadelphia’s defense allows the most passing yards and rushing yards per game. That should give the Panthers’ offense an opportunity to have a big game, in addition to their defensive advantage as well.

The Stallions should have the upper hand in their game against Tampa Bay, but I think the Bandits are a sneaky team here. I don’t quite trust them enough to bet on their spread or moneyline though.

The over seems like a reasonable bet, mostly due to these teams being solid on offense. Birmingham games have been high scoring and have hit the over set for this one 2 out of 3 times.

The Breakers are coming off a tough loss to end their 2 game winning streak to start the season. I think they match up very well with Houston and could be in a perfect spot to bounce back.

They were sloppy on offense last week, so Houston’s poor defense can give them a chance to get back on track. Houston has allowed the most points in 2022, so that should be a great spot for New Orleans.
