Picks and Predictions for the USFL Games for Week 3, 2022

| April 26, 2022 7:14 am PDT

The football action is starting to heat up this week with Week 3 of the USFL season and the 2022 NFL Draft. The USFL’s first two weeks were successes, so Week 3 will surely be interesting as well.

We have two undefeated teams remaining in the league, which is great for competition. It being only an 8-team league means that a powerhouse could run the league. Could one of the remaining undefeated teams be that powerhouse, or is it too early to tell?

The Birmingham Stallions and New Orleans Breakers are the remaining undefeated teams. In perfect fashion, they are set to face each other in Week 3. Only one undefeated team will remain, so this could be the biggest game to date.

There’s more where that came from though, so let’s get right into the USFL odds for Week 3 of the 2022 season.

USFL Odds for Week 3 of the 2022 Season

  • Tampa Bay Bandits (-115) vs. Houston Gamblers (-105), O/U 39
  • Birmingham Stallions (+145) vs. New Orleans Breakers (-170), O/U 44.5
  • Pittsburgh Maulers (+125) vs. Michigan Panthers (-145), O/U 39
  • New Jersey Generals (-105) vs. Philadelphia Stars (-115), O/U 40.5

Here are the odds for each of the 4 games for the USFL this week. Like I said earlier, the biggest game will be the undefeated showdown between the Stallions and Breakers, but there’s 3 other great games on tap as well.

First up is the Tampa Bay Bandits taking on the Houston Gamblers. Both of these teams won in Week 1, but dropped their Week 2 game. They’ll be hungry to prove themselves in Week 3, so this should be a close game.

The Bandits were obliterated by the Breakers in Week 2, losing 34-3. The Gamblers kept their game much closer, but ended up losing 33-28 to the Stallions.

The Maulers will be taking on the Panthers this week. This is the exact opposite of the Stallions and Breakers game, as both of these teams have yet to get in the winner’s column in 2022. Michigan has looked pretty terrible, but more specifically on the offensive side.

They’ve scored just 18 total points through 2 weeks of play, the lowest of any team in the USFL.

Lastly, the Generals and Stars will be another matchup between 1-1 teams. That means that all four games have teams with the same records going head to head. Yes, it’s a small sample size but still noteworthy.

USFL Predictions for Winner’s of Week 3

  • Tampa Bay Bandits Over Houston Gamblers
  • New Orleans Breakers Over Birmingham Stallions
  • Pittsburgh Maulers Over Michigan Panthers
  • Philadelphia Stars Over New Jersey Generals

Although the Gamblers looked much better than Tampa Bay last week, I still think the Bandits are the better team. It seems like the Breakers are just on another level right now and made them look terrible last week.

The Bandits put together a much better all around performance in Week 1, so hopefully they’ll get back to playing like that.

Like I said with the Breakers, they are on another level right now. Tampa Bay was a top competitor for the 2022 USFL season, but they handed it to them last week. A 31 point victory is pretty incredible that most, if not all of the games have been rather close this season.

The Stallions will be a tough team to beat, but I don’t want to bet against the Breakers until further notice.

The battle of the 0-2 teams could actually make the game interesting. Both teams haven’t gotten off to the starts they wanted and need to turn it around quickly.

Michigan followed up their abysmal 12 point, 9 fumble (2 lost) performance in Week 1 with an even more disappointing 6 points in Week 2.

The Maulers scored just 3 points in Week 1, but looked much better with 23 points in Week 2.

New Jersey didn’t find the same 2-QB system success in Week 2 that it had in Week 1. It will be interesting to see how they adapt if the Stars make the adjustments. The Stars have been a bit more consistent with 17 points in Week 1 and 30 points in Week 2, so I’ll give them the edge here.

Top USFL Bets to Target for Week 3 (2022)

Tampa Bay Bandits vs. Houston Gamblers Over 39-115
New Orleans Breakers to Win-170
Pittsburgh Maulers vs. Michigan Panthers Under 39-110
New Jersey Generals vs. Philadelphia Stars Over 40.5-110

There’s still a lot we have yet to see in the USFL. Two weeks is still a very small sample size, as teams are still figuring themselves out. It’s important to be successful when making adjustments throughout the season, so that’s what these teams need to do.

At this point, I am only trusting the Breakers to win this week. Their incredible win over the Bandits last week pretty much has them as the top dawg, even though Birmingham is 2-0 themselves.

They have a talented team all around, leading the USFL in total yardage per game and have the best turnover ratio at +4.

For the rest of my USFL predictions for Week 3, I am going with two overs and one under.

Tampa’s offense should be in for a bounce back performance and the Gamblers are averaging 22.5 points per game after two weeks.

The Generals got the win last week, but only put up 10 points. I think they’re offense has potential, but they can’t be too predictable with the running and passing designated quarterbacks. If they switch it up and be unpredictable, they can put up some solid performances.

The Stars are averaging 23.5 points per game this year, so they can do the heavy lifting here too.

As for the under pick, both the Maulers and Panthers have looked pretty bad offensively in 2022. One of them will get a win this week, but neither looks reliable.
