Ulsan Hyundai vs. Gwangju – K League 1, September 6, 2020

Before last week’s incredible goal-fest from Gwangju, this Sunday’s fixture may have been looked at as nothing but a foregone conclusion.

But the Yellows will be lifted by that performance against Daegu and will travel to the Big Crown believing that they can repeat last weekend’s victory – or at least the 1-1 draw that these teams played out earlier in the season.

BetOnline obviously didn’t see anything in Gwangju’s victory last weekend to make it change its mind in the pricing of this one. The Horangi is the odds on favorite, understandably, while the chance of a surprise win for the visiting side is given very short shrift indeed.

Ulsan Hyundai vs. Gwangju Match Preview

Ulsan swatted away FC Seoul’s challenge last weekend as it completed a 3-0 win with relative ease. Manager Kim Do-hoon changed around his starting eleven a little – but the final effect was the same as usual. There may be further changes this Sunday as well, with one eye on the upcoming fixtures against Daegu and Jeonbuk.

But Ulsan will still go into this as big favorites as it has still only lost one game all season. With Jeonbuk losing last weekend, the points gap is now four – and the Horangi should be able to keep on going until the end of the year and pick up the title that everyone connected to the club so dearly wants.

Gwangju might well make this Sunday’s three points difficult to win, however. The draw between the two sides earlier in the season will give the Yellows some confidence – as will the incredible 6-4 win in Daegu last week that extended the unbeaten streak to five games.

That ten-goal thriller equaled the most goals ever scored in a K League 1 game and the Gwangju fans were not the only ones that enjoyed the spectacle. Daegu’s form has been a bit up and down recently though, so manager Park Jin-seop will know that his impressive defensive unit will need to be on top form on Sunday.

Prediction and Pick

Best Bet
  • Ulsan Hyundai to Win

There is nothing I would love more than a repeat of the ten-goal spectacular that Gwangju served up last week – whoever ends up on the winning side. But the truth is that Ulsan will probably dominate this one and eventually break down a stubborn Gwangju backline to take all three points in its quest to win the league title this year.
