Ulsan Hyundai vs. Gwangju Betting – K League 1, November 1, 2020
It could well be a case of ‘too little too late’ for Ulsan this weekend as even a win against Gwangju will not guarantee it a league title it had looked to have won just a few weeks ago.
The defeat to Jeonbuk last week handed the Green Warriors the advantage. So three points from Gwangju on Sunday might end up meaning nothing at all.
Ulsan Hyundai vs. Gwangju Odds
BetOnline makes Ulsan the odds on favorite to win this one on Sunday, but I’m surprised that the gap between the two sets of win bet odds is not even bigger. Ulsan has to win this game and hopes that Jeonbuk doesn’t win its fixture. A home win would seem to be almost guaranteed.
Ulsan Hyundai vs. Gwangju Preview
It does look now that Ulsan has thrown away its chance of winning a first league title for 15 years – and to end Jeonbuk’s perennial procession to silverware. A defensive mistake gave Jeonbuk the victory last weekend – and suddenly the Horangi is looking like it will end up nothing again.
If anything, Ulsan has looked the better team of the two for the majority of the season. It has not been able to overcome Jeonbuk in any of the three games between the two though – and it is that very important detail that tells its own story as we go into the final weekend of the campaign.
Gwangju will probably not care too much either way how this game goes on Sunday. It has been an excellent season for last year’s K League 2 champions. After a patchy start to the campaign, the Yellows sneaked into the top six on the last day before the split and can be well proud of its efforts.
In the four games played in the Championship group, Gwangju has scored just four times while conceding 11 in four straight defeats. So there cannot be too much hope that Ulsan will be stopped on Sunday. But with sixth place assured five weeks ago, that will not matter too much to the players and manager.
My Ulsan Hyundai vs. Gwangju Betting Pick
Ulsan Hyundai to Win-190
I suppose there may be the possibility that last week’s loss to Jeonbuk has so affected the Ulsan players that they have already given up any chance of winning the league. But if that is not the case then I just can’t see anything but a home win here. I’m not sure it will have any effect on where the league trophy ends up though.
