Turkey vs. Italy – European Championship, June 11, 2021

| June 9, 2021 7:02 am PDT

Following a year-long delay, Euro 2020 finally gets underway this Friday, June 11. Turkey and Italy go head-to-head at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico, giving the Azzurri home-field advantage.

Roberto Mancini’s side heads into the European Championship on a remarkable 27-game unbeaten streak in all competitions, dating back to November 2018.

On the flip side, Turkey is currently enjoying a six-game unbeaten run, although Senol Gunes’ men haven’t faced a team of Italy’s quality for quite some time.

Are you ready to bet on Euro 2020? If so, keep reading find my prediction, and pick for Turkey vs. Italy.

Turkey vs. Italy Betting Odds

Turkey to Win7.25
The Draw3.65
Italy to Win1.54

As you can see, the top-rated online sportsbooks haven’t sprung any surprises with their Turkey vs. Italy odds. With the home crowd behind them, the Italians are expected to kick off their Euro 2020 campaign by sealing all three points.

Still, the tasty odds elsewhere are bound to attract plenty of attention. Anything can happen in tournament soccer, and that makes Turkey’s price of 7.25 feel extremely generous.

Before we settle on a Turkey vs. Italy prediction and betting pick, let’s take a closer look at both sides.

Could Turkey Cause an Upset?

The Crescent-Stars stunned everyone by reaching the semi-finals at Euro 2008 before failing to qualify for the next European Championship altogether. Their group-stage exit at Euro 2016 was far less surprising.

However, Turkey produced a high-quality Euro 2020 qualifying campaign – losing just one of their ten games en route to finishing two points behind France.

Gunes’ men even managed to beat the reigning world champions back in June 2019.

Since then, Turkey has picked up impressive victories over the likes of the Netherlands, Russia, and Norway. But having drawn nine of their previous 17 matches in all competitions, Gunes’ side has found wins hard to come by.

If the Crescent-Stars are to upset the Euro 2020 odds, Burak Yilmaz will need to carry his domestic form onto the international stage. The veteran striker bagged 16 goals on his way to lifting the Ligue 1 title with Lille last season.

Although AC Milan’s Hakan Calhanoglu can produce match-winning moments, the Turkey squad isn’t exactly strong as a whole.

Italy Is the Heavy Favorite

Not only have Mancini’s men avoided defeat in each of their last 27 outings (22 wins, 5 draws), but they have also won each of their previous eight games.

Better still, the Italians haven’t conceded a single goal across their eight-match winning streak. Gianluigi Donnarumma has kept countless clean sheets over the past couple of years, cementing his status as one of the best young players at Euro 2020.

The Azzurri have been extremely prolific at the other end of the pitch, too. They have netted a whopping 25 goals across their recent winning run, averaging just over three goals per game.

At this stage, Ciro Immobile is among the bookmakers’ outsiders for the Euro 2020 Golden Boot. But if the Lazio striker hits the ground running, he could easily finish as the tournament’s top scorer.

The unstoppable marksman racked up 25 goals and eight assists for the Eagles last term. Believe it or not – that is a below-part return by his own high standards!

Turkey vs. Italy Prediction and Pick

  • Italy to Win

The Italians are enjoying a seemingly unstoppable unbeaten streak at the moment, so I’m confident that Mancini’s men will be able to dispatch Turkey without any issues on Friday.

Ultimately, the Azzurri squad looks seriously strong in every department. With Juventus duo Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci set to line up in the heart of Italy’s defense, another clean-sheet victory is on the cards for the hosts.
