Turfway Park Racing Picks – Friday, February 26, 2021

| February 25, 2021 1:49 pm PDT

Turfway Park brings us two ungraded stakes races as well as plenty of maiden, allowance, and claiming matches on its eight-race schedule for Friday.

One of the two stakes races is the John Battaglia Memorial Stakes, one of the last early prep races on the 2021 Road to the Kentucky Derby. That race and the Cincinnati Trophy Stakes offer us plenty of surprise wagers with serious profit potential.

Read on for my Turfway Park picks and betting tips for Friday, February 26, 2021.

Pick for Race 4 at Turfway Park

This is an allowance race for three-year-olds and upward running a distance of one mile on the all-weather track for a purse of $33,000.

I like the bottom half of the coupled entry for this race — the 5/2 morning line favorite La La Land, ridden by Santiago Gonzalez. This six-year-old gelding moneyed seven of his ten career starts, including the Singletary Stakes (Black Type) and the Pasadena Stakes (Listed) at Santa Anita in 2018, along with two handicap races at Wolverton before he left the U.K. for the U.S.

Neither of the two long-odds entries in this race give any indication they could finish anywhere near the money, so I have no show ticket recommendation.

  •  Win: La La Land 5/2

Picks for Race 5 at Turfway Park — John Battaglia Memorial Stakes

This is the John Battaglia Memorial Stakes, an ungraded stakes race for three-year-olds running a distance of 1-1/16 miles on the all-weather track for a purse of $100,000. The John Battaglia Memorial Stakes is one of the prep races on the 2021 Road to the Kentucky Derby and awards scoring points to the top four finishers (10-4-2-1) for placement on the RTTKD scoreboard.

My money in this stakes race is on 3/1 morning line favorite — Gretzky the Great, with Gerardo Corrales in the irons. This colt moneyed four of his five career starts, winning three — the most recent of which was the Summer Stakes (Grade I) at Woodbine last September.

Fun Fact: None of the horses in this race (including the also-eligible entry) currently have a score on the 2021 Road to the Kentucky Derby.

I have to like the 20/1 longshot, The Predicament, with Rafael Manuel Hernandez aboard, for a value show ticket. This gelding moneyed all eight of his career starts, winning one.

  •  Win: Gretzky the Great 3/1
  •  Show: The Predicament 20/1

Picks for Race 7 at Turfway Park — Cincinnati Trophy Stakes

This is the Cincinnati Trophy Stakes, an ungraded stakes race for three-year-old fillies running a distance of 6-1/2 furlongs on the all-weather track for a purse of $65,000.

My money is on the second-favored (4/1) entry in this stakes race — Dirty Dangle, ridden by Chris Landeros. This filly moneyed two of her three career starts — both of them wins. Her single non-money finish was in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (Grade II) at Keeneland last November. Her two wins were both at Woodbine, one of which was the Woodbine Cares Stakes (Black Type).

I can’t resist a value show ticket on the 50/1 longshot Lichita, ridden by Agustin Gomez. This filly moneyed four of her eight career starts, winning two.

  •  Win: Dirty Dangle 4/1
  •  Show: Lichita 50/1
