Turf Paradise Racing Picks – Friday, March 5, 2021

Turf Paradise somehow manages to fit all the regular types of thoroughbred races in a compact eight-race card for our Friday wagering.
Remember that spectators are permitted at Turf Paradise, so if you plan to attend, expect sunny skies, highs in the low 80s, and winds at a mile eight mph.
Now, read on for my Turf Paradise picks and betting tips for Friday, March 5, 2021.
Picks for Race 2 at Turf Paradise
This is a claiming race for four-year-olds and upward running a distance of five furlongs for a purse of $13,500.
I like the second-favored (7/2) entry for the win in this race — Smiling Angelo, ridden by Alex M. Cruz. This gelding finished in the money nine of his 13 career starts, winning five.
At 10/1, I like Sombra Negra, with Luis A. Fuentes in the irons for a value show wager, perhaps even for an across-the-board bet. This six-year-old gelding moneyed 20 of his 28 career starts, winning 13.
- Win: Smiling Angelo 7/2
- Show/Across the Board: Sombra Negra 10/1
Picks for Race 4 at Turf Paradise
This is a claiming race for four-year-olds and upward running a distance of about 7-1/2 furlongs on turf for a purse of $12,000.
I agree with the morning line, and my money is on the 5/2 favorite — Pasamonte Man, ridden by Luis A. Fuentes. This five-year-old gelding had money finishes in 11 of his 22 career starts, winning six, including his last two starts (in January and February, respectively).
Bear in mind that there’s also a 6/1 sleeper in this race — All Under Control, with Alex M. Cruz aboard. This seven-year-old gelding moneyed 26 of his 48 career starts, winning ten.
And at 12/1, I like Burton Ernie, with Allyssa Morales in the irons, for a value show bet. This six-year-old gelding moneyed 19 of his 33 career starts, winning seven.
- Win: Pasamonte Man 5/2
- Sleeper: All Under Control 6/1
- Show: Burton Ernie 12/1
Picks for Race 8 at Turf Paradise
This is an allowance optional claiming race for four-year-olds and upward running a distance of about one mile on turf for a purse of $16,500.
My money is on the third-favored (4/1) entry in this race — Bull Hollow, ridden by Karlo Lopez. This four-year-old gelding moneyed five of his six career starts, winning one.
By comparison, neither the morning line favorite nor the second-favored has won a race since 2019.
I like the 12/1 Jacks Outlaw, with Leslie Mawing in the irons, for a value show bet. This four-year-old colt moneyed seven of his 11 career starts, winning two. Against this field, you might even consider betting this horse across the board, but I’m just recommending the show ticket.
- Win: Bull Hollow 4/1
- Show: Jacks Outlaw 12/1
