Turf Paradise Racing Picks – Tuesday, March 2, 2021
Turf Paradise has a ten-race card of maiden, allowance, and claiming races for our Tuesday wagering entertainment. I find solid underdog contenders and even a couple of sleepers among the entries.
A limited number of spectators are permitted at Turf Paradise, and if you attend, you can expect to enjoy the races on Tuesday under sunny skies, with the day’s high around 79 and winds at 14 mph.
Read on for my Turf Paradise picks and betting tips for Tuesday, March 2, 2021.
Picks for Race 1 at Turf Paradise
This is an allowance optional claiming race for fillies and mares four years old and upward running a distance of 5-1/2 furlongs for a purse of $16,500.
I agree with the morning line here, and my bet is on the 5/2 favorite — Uh Oh Lucy, ridden by Scott A. Stevens. This four-year-old filly moneyed both of her career starts, placing second in her first run, breaking her maiden in her second.
The longest odds in this seven-horse race are 8/1, and that horse — Trans Mississippi, with Alex Cruz aboard — looks like a sleeper and is quite likely to finish in the money if not steal the win from the favorite. For the record, this five-year-old mare moneyed seven of her 14 career starts, winning two. Bet your conscience.
- Win: Uh Oh Lucy 5/2
- Sleeper: Trans Mississippi 8/1
Picks for Race 3 at Turf Paradise
This is an allowance optional claiming race for four-year-olds and upward running a distance of one mile for a purse of $23,500.
I like the third-favored (9/2) entry in this race — Quincy Express, with Enrique P. Gomez in the irons. This five-year-old gelding moneyed 13 of his 19 career starts, winning five.
And I found yet another 8/1 sleeper in this race — Rail Hugger, with Alex M. Cruz aboard. This four-year-old colt finished in the money nine of his 14 career starts, winning four. Easy show bet and a win ticket isn’t out of the question.
- Win: Quincy Express 9/2
- Sleeper: Rail Hugger 8/1
Picks for Race 8 at Turf Paradise
This is an allowance optional claiming race for four-year-olds and upward running a distance of one mile for a purse of $17,000.
My money is on the third-favored (4/1) horse in this race — Blue Azul, ridden by Isaias Enriquez. This seven-year-old gelding moneyed 14 of his 24 career starts, winning nine. He’s won two of his three 2021 starts. So far.
At 10/1, I like Matson, with Joree Scriver in the irons, for a value show ticket. This four-year-old gelding moneyed ten of his 17 career starts, winning three.
- Win: Blue Azul 4/1
- Show: Matson 10/1
