Turf Paradise Racing Picks – Wednesday, February 10, 2021
Turf Paradise in Phoenix, Arizona features mostly claiming races on its nine-race schedule for Wednesday, and while most of the runs are on the main track, there are a handful of turf races to enjoy, as well.
Turf Paradise is open to a limited number of spectators, so if you’re lucky enough to attend, expect the races on Wednesday to run under partly cloudy skies, with highs in the mid-70s and winds around six mph.
While I review the richest three races here, you can find Turf Paradise’s full nine-race card for Wednesday — including entries, jockeys, morning line odds, and wagering options — at one of our best online racebooks.
Read on for my Turf Paradise picks and betting tips for Wednesday, February 10, 2021.
Pick for Race 1 at Turf Paradise
This is a maiden optional claiming race for fillies and mares four years old and upward running a distance of one mile for a purse of $16,300.
I’m going with the second-favored (3/1) entry in this maiden race — Tiparillo, with Keivan Serrano in the irons. This four-year-old filly moneyed all three of her career starts, two of those finishes in 2021.
While the 5/2 morning line favorite is jockeyed by veteran Enrique Portillo Gomez, I don’t think even his skill is going to get his mount across the finish line ahead of Tiparillo.
As far as a value show bet goes, the longest odds in this seven-horse race are 12/1, and I don’t see that mare finishing anywhere near the money, so save yours.
- Win: Tiparillo 3/1
Pick for Race 3 at Turf Paradise
This is an allowance race for four-year-olds and upward running a distance of one mile for a purse of $17,500.
My money is on the fourth-favored (5/1) entry — Clavichord, with Luis A. Fuentes aboard. This five-year-old gelding has a better record than all but the morning line favorite: Six money finishes in seven career starts, two of them wins.
Yes, the favorite (Once On Whiskey) won the Los Alamitos Derby — in 2018. In point of fact: Once on Whiskey hasn’t finished a race in the money since 2019–or started one, for that matter. His last career start was in May of 2019.
No long-odds entries among this six-horse field, so no value show bet recommendation. Sad emoji.
- Win: Clavichord 5/1
Pick for Race 5 at Turf Paradise
This is a starter optional claiming race for four-year-olds and upward running a distance of 1-1/16 miles on turf for a purse of $16,500.
I’m sticking with the 2/1 morning line favorite in this race — Storm Bayou, ridden by Isaias D. Enriquez. This five-year-old gelding moneyed seven of his eight career starts, winning four of them. He’s far and away the frontrunner in this field.
Longest odds in this race are 8/1, and that isn’t going to happen, so save your long money for later.
- Win: Storm Bayou 2/1
