Tsvetana Pironkova vs. Serena Williams – French Open, September 30, 2020
Tsvetana Pironkova and Serena Williams had a thrilling encounter in the quarterfinals of the 2020 US Open just a couple of weeks ago. The American prevailed in a tough clash that went three sets and now she has to face the same opponent in the 2020 French Open.
The clash is only in the second round of the tournament this time around and I’m pretty sure that both players hoped for a better draw this early on.
I share my thoughts on their chances in this Tsvetana Pironkova vs. Serena Williams betting preview. The post includes the latest odds and lines, my prediction, and a free betting pick.

The latest Tsvetana Pironkova vs. Serena Williams odds of the leading tennis sportsbooks online show a lot of respect for the Bulgarian. She’s still the underdog, but the expectations are that she should be able to put up a fight against her famous opponent.
Tsvetana Pironkova Form and Analysis
The return of Tsvetana Pironkova has been nothing short of extraordinary. The Bulgarian was out for three years after giving birth, before coming back to reach the quarterfinals of the 2020 US Open. That’s where Serena stopped her in a close encounter.
The Bulgarian’s performance earned her a wild card for the 2020 French Open and she took full advantage in the first round of the tournament. Pironkova beat Andrea Petkovic without breaking a sweat and looked strong in the process.
She will be under a lot more pressure against Serena, though. On the bright side, Pironkova’s style works well on clay and her opponent is not super comfortable on this surface.
Serena Williams Form and Analysis
The opening French Open 2020 match of Serena Williams was somewhat weird. She struggled badly in the first set and had to go through hell, before closing the tiebreak against Kristie Ahn. The former world number 1 then beat her opponent without giving up a game in the second.
Serena’s performance in the second set was on another level and shows that when her serve starts working, it becomes almost impossible to compete with here.
She knows that Pironkova is a dangerous opponent and the big question is if Williams can stay consistent. Any moment of weakness will be punished by the Bulgarian, so we might have another tough clash on our hands.
Pironkova vs. Williams Prediction and Betting Pick
I expect something similar to what we saw between these two in the US Open. Pironkova can push Williams to the limit and is likely to steal a set. And yet, the American should be too strong at the end. I believe that going for the over 20.5 games option is the best pick for this one.
The wager will certainly win if the clash goes three sets and it’s possible that the line is covered only in two as well.
