Tottenham Hotspur vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers – English Premier League, May 16, 2021

It has been a frustrating season for both these clubs, but Spurs still have the opportunity to qualify for European competition next season.

Wolves will have to be content with a mid-table finish. Even that looked like wishful thinking at times, so Nuno Espirito Santo will plan to do much better next season.

I think that these two sides are much closer than the odds imply. I can only assume that Tottenham’s need to win more points before the end of the season made the bookmakers swing that way.

A home win is most likely, but the price for the draw does look interesting.

There has not been too much rumormongering, but there must be a question over Harry Kane’s future at Tottenham now. He is not getting younger and will not be content with missing out on the Champions League. He might not be moving this summer, but that eventuality must be a worry at the club.

The immediate task is to see off the challenge of Everton and Arsenal below and push West Ham for a Europa League place. I don’t have a lot of confidence that Spurs can fend off Everton, but it does have a much better goal difference. A win here would really stamp some authority on that battle.

If the second-half performance against Brighton is anything to go by, that might be enough to pick up a few points.

The Black Country club will be without its best players on Sunday as Willy Boly is likely to remain on the sidelines, as is the injured Pedro Neto. Some excellent news is that Raul Jimenez may be able to play before the end of the season. He will miss this one, though, so Wolves will probably have to rely on Tottenham having an off day.

As poor as Spurs have been at times this season, it can always rely on the goals of Harry Kane to dig it out of a hole.

The England captain is a real talisman for the team, and the pressure will be on him to deliver on Sunday – and in the other remaining fixtures. If he comes through, Tottenham should be good for the home win here.
