Tottenham Hotspur vs. Royal Antwerp – Europa League, December 10, 2020

| December 8, 2020 8:10 am PDT

When Tottenham visited Antwerp on Matchday 2, the Belgians secured a shock 1-0 victory. But a lot has changed since then. Jose Mourinho’s men have made their way to the summit of the EPL table, while the Great Old has struggled for consistency.

This time around, Spurs welcome Antwerp to North London on Thursday, December 10. Both sides have already booked their place in the next round, although Thursday’s winner will secure top spot in Group J.

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Royal Antwerp Odds

Tottenham Hotspur to Win 1.34
The Draw 5.25
Royal Antwerp to Win 7.50

Despite Spurs’ slip-up in the reverse fixture, the leading online sportsbooks are expecting Tottenham (1.34) to claim all three points on Thursday.

But having already beaten Mourinho’s men this season, I’m sure that Antwerp (7.50) will be quietly confident of snatching a draw (5.25) on Matchday 6.

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Royal Antwerp Preview

It feels Spurs are brimming with belief right now. Mourinho is smiling again, and he has plenty of reasons to be happy.

Goals from Son Heung-min and Harry Kane saw Tottenham crush rivals Arsenal 2-0 last time out. The North London Derby is usually a hugely competitive fixture, yet it’s fair to say that Spurs looked in complete control throughout the entire 90 minutes on Sunday.

The victory means Tottenham remains top of the Premier League table – 11 points clear of the Gunners. Not only are Mourinho’s men among the top scorers in the division, they also boast the best defensive record in England’s top-flight.

Spurs have only lost one of their five Europa League matches this season, recording three wins and a draw along the way. They have also been scoring goals for fun in Europe recently, with two heavy victories coming against Ludogorets last month.

After scoring against LASK last week and sitting out of the North London Derby, I’m expecting Gareth Bale to lead the line for Tottenham on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Antwerp’s Europa League campaign could not have gone much better up to now. The Belgians have won four of their five European outings this season, putting them two points clear at the top of Group J.

After beating Ludogorets and Spurs, Antwerp was narrowly defeated 1-0 by LASK on Matchday 3. But Ivan Leko’s men gained their revenge over the Austrians in the reverse fixture, before seeing off Ludogorets again last week.

However, the team’s domestic performances seem to have suffered as a result of their European exploits. The Great Old has only managed to win seven of their 15 league matches this term and already sits six points off the pace in the Pro League title race.

Despite taking an early lead, Antwerp was thrashed 4-2 by Genk on Sunday. Leko’s men have won just one of their previous five domestic games, so they have not enjoyed the best preparation for Thursday’s showdown.

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Royal Antwerp Betting Pick

  • Tottenham Hotspur to Win

I’m backing Spurs to make amends for their defeat in the reverse fixture. The English side is on a seemingly unstoppable run right now, and I can’t see Antwerp ending their hot streak.

Ultimately, Tottenham is seriously strong at both ends of the pitch at the moment. The team is scoring goals while keeping the ball out of their own net. All the signs are pointing towards the home win here.
