Thursday’s NBA Predictions and Betting Tips (May 6, 2021)

| May 6, 2021 2:12 am PDT

The Los Angeles Lakers are banged up again. Change the record, right? Other than that, the NBA is pretty normal as Thursday’s seven-game schedule arrives.

Bettors will still want to track the latest injury news, but for the most part, Thursday’s NBA betting slate looks to set up nicely.

Let’s see which bets stand out the most in today’s NBA predictions and betting picks.

NBA Predictions for Thursday, May 6th

  • Hornets to beat Bulls
  • Nets to beat Mavericks
  • Wizards to beat Raptors
  • Grizzlies to beat Pistons
  • Hawks to beat Pacers
  • Warriors to beat Thunder
  • Clippers to beat Lakers

This looks like a pretty easy slate to bet on, so you can roll with my free NBA picks above if you want to just bet on moneylines.

Obviously, an upset is always possible, and I’ll go over any potential NBA underdog picks I like in the next section. They’re few and far between on this slate, of course.

Most of the favorites have a major incentive to keep racking up wins, and they’re simply the far better teams. Charlotte, Memphis, Atlanta, and Golden State all feel like obvious picks, and it’s likely betting on their moneylines won’t be very advantageous.

There could be value to be had via the Nets, Clippers, or Wizards, though.

L.A. will be tough to trust against the Clippers, as they’re once again without LeBron James.

That makes the Clippers stand out, while Washington is just on fire these days.

I’d like the Wiz to stay hot, while the Nets need to get it going (lost three straight); I’d like them to respond with a big win over the Mavs.

NBA Upset Picks for Thursday

  • Hornets (+140)
  • Mavericks (+140)
  • Wizards (+135)

I have the Nets winning in today’s NBA predictions, but I can’t look past the Mavericks at this price. They still have Luka Doncic, they’re trying to move up in the playoff seeding, and they’re at home.

They certainly look interesting ATS at +3.5, but the upset isn’t that much of a reach with the Nets (losers of three straight) struggling at the moment.

That said, I’m certainly far more interested in the Hornets and Wizards.

Washington is mostly on fire right now. Yes, they lost to the Bucks last night, but they put up 134 points and lost by one. They’ve otherwise been amazing lately, and Toronto is not a formidable opponent.

Charlotte also stands out as a compelling +140 home dog. LaMelo Ball and P.J. Washington are back in the fold, and the Hornets are still fighting for playoff positioning.

Chicago is getting healthy at the right time, but it’s hard to hate the Hornets at home in this spot.

Best NBA Bets for Thursday, May 6th

  • Lakers (+7) -110
  • Thunder (+14) -110
  • Thunder vs. Warriors Over 227 (-110)

While I’m not super excited about betting on the Lakers as an underdog, I do like this line. Even without Dennis Schroder and King James, the Lakers could still be competitive.

If the Clippers end up resting any of their key guys, this line looks even better.

OKC is eyeing the #1 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, but 14 points are still 14 points. Golden State has the offensive firepower to blow them out, but the Thunder weirdly rise and compete at times.

Don’t forget that the Thunder beat Boston not too long ago, and the Dubs actually lost to seemingly inferior Timberwolves and Pelicans teams recently.

OKC doesn’t need to win. They just need to keep it within two touchdowns.

If you’re not on board with that, consider hammering the Over. Golden State ranks second in pace in the NBA, while the Thunder rank 23rd defensively. It could be the perfect recipe to get this game north of 227 total points.
