Thursday Night Football DFS Showdown Picks and Top Lineup – Week 8, 2021

| October 27, 2021 10:22 am PST

The Green Bay Packers won’t be at full strength for Thursday Night Football in week eight, and that will undeniably impact how you build NFL DFS lineups.

Davante Adams is unlikely to suit up, and Allen Lazard has no chance at playing. The earth-shattering news has bumped Green Bay to 6.5-point underdogs, and makes this game tough to peg.

Personally, I think it actually clears things up considerably for anyone looking to build Thursday Night Football DFS Showdown lineups.

To help you with the process, first take a look at Dan Vasta’s Packers vs. Cardinals betting preview. Then dive into the madness with me, as I break down my favorite NFL DFS picks and top lineup for Thursday Night Football.

Top TNF DFS Captain Picks for Week 8

  • Kyler Murray, QB, Cardinals ($18k)
  • Aaron Rodgers, QB, Packers ($17.1k)
  • Aaron Jones, RB, Packers ($13.5k)

I’m not saying there aren’t other NFL DFS picks you can slide into the Captain slot. Sometimes a build calls for a sleeper play here. I just don’t think TNF demands it this week.

The absence of Davante Adams plays into that, while even DeAndre Hopkins is in doubt for this game.

Despite the depleted lineup, Aaron Rodgers is still on the table here. He’s been rock solid since a week one debacle, putting up 23+ fantasy points in five of his last six outings.

He’s less of a lock without his top weapon, but Rodgers and the Packers have managed to go 6-0 without Adams in the past.

Kyler Murray is a lock for Thursday Night Football DFS lineups. He doesn’t need to be in the Captain slot necessarily, but he’s as dynamic as they come. Green Bay also allowed Taylor Heinicke to rush for 80+ yards on the ground last week, so just imagine what Murray can do here.

Of the trio listed, though, Aaron Jones is the most enticing.

Not only is he sure to be utilized more as a receiver given Green Bay’s health woes, but the Packers should also look to run more. That may be good news going up against the Cardinals, who rank 18th in rushing yards allowed per game.

Week 8 Fantasy Football Sleepers for TNF

  • Rondale Moore, WR, Cardinals ($7.2k)
  • Robert Tonyan, TE, Packers ($6.9k)
  • Randall Cobb, WR, Packers ($5.4k)
  • Amari Rodgers, WR, Packers ($600)

Thanks to the absence of Adams (and perhaps Hopkins), there is an insane amount of value available to you going into Thursday Night Football.

Moore is an explosive rookie that could go overlooked in the event Nuk suits up. If not, he may end up being chalky. Either way, he has the speed to do major damage against a battered Packers defense.

Tonyan stands to benefit from the absence of Green Bay’s top two receivers. Arizona presently ranks #1 against tight ends on the year, but they also haven’t faced anyone.

Seeing as Tonyan got it going last week (5-63-1 stat line), I don’t hate him at all.

The same goes for Cobb, who Rodgers requested the Green Bay brass trade for before the season began. It’s looked like a good move, as he had a two-score game back in week four, and also had a crucial catch against the Bengals.

Cobb isn’t a world-beater, but he’s a reliable target for Rodgers. He won’t’ be a sneaky play, but he may end up being a necessary one.

There’s also Rodgers. The rookie has been very quiet in his first season, but there hasn been much work for him with Davante Adams eating up so much of the passing volume. That changes this week, which could allow for the former Clemson product to have his biggest game as a pro.

A few other sleepers have potential here. In the event you want to cram a healthy Nuk into your Thursday Night Football DFS Showdown lineups, Maik Taylor ($200), A.J. Dillon ($2.1k), and Equanimeous St. Brown ($900) all deserve consideration.

Best TNF DFS Showdown Lineup for Week 8

  • CAPTAIN: Aaron Jones, RB, Packers ($13.5k)
  • FLEX: Kyler Murray, QB, Cardinals ($12k)
  • FLEX: Aaron Rodgers, QB, Packers ($11.4k)
  • FLEX: Rondale Moore, WR, Cardinals ($4.8k)
  • FLEX: Robert Tonyan, TE, Packers ($4.6k)
  • FLEX: Randall Cobb, WR, Packers ($3.6k)

Ideally, we get official news on Adams and Nuk ahead of time, and we can map out our Thursday Night Football DFS picks a bit better. Still, as things stand, I am operating as if both are going to be out.

That puts Moore in play, and I love Jones to be the smash play for the Packers. Rodgers is still worth rostering, Murray remains a must, and guys like Tonyan and Cobb should soak up targets normally meant for Adams.

The only hesitance here is whether or not this lineup is different enough.

If you’re trying to score a big takedown in GPPs, you don’t want the same lineup everyone else has. Ownership projections aren’t out just yet, so you may want to adjust once you have a better idea of player exposures.

For now, these are the NFL DFS picks I like the most for Thursday Night Football. Hopefully they help you make some cash. If you want to profit even more from this game, be sure to check out the top NFL player prop bets for Thursday Night Football this week.
