Thistledown Racino Picks – Monday, September 28, 2020

| September 28, 2020 12:16 am PDT

The regular eight-race schedule at Thistledown Racino for Monday is mostly maiden and claiming races, with a couple of allowance races thrown in for flavor. I didn’t find any value bets in the long-odds range at Thistledown, but I did find a third-favored underdog you’ll want to watch in race 5.

Read on for my Thistledown Racino picks and betting tips for today.

Pick for Thistledown Racino Race 1

This is a maiden special weight race for Ohio-foaled three-year-olds and upward running a distance of 5-1/2 furlongs for a purse of $27,500.

I’m going with the 3/1 morning line favorite here—Blistering Pakshi, ridden by top jockey Erik Barbaran. This four-year-old gelding moneyed five of his nine career starts and he placed second in his last four races. I believe Barbaran can help him get his picture taken in the winner’s circle today.

None of the longer-odds entries in this maiden race have done anything to indicate they could finish in the money.

  • Win: Blistering Pakshi 3/1

Pick for Thistledown Racino Race 5

This is an allowance race for Ohio-foaled fillies and mares three years old and upward running a distance of 5-1/2 furlongs for a purse of $29,300.

I like the third-favored (7/2) entry in this race—Nan’s Rose, with Luis A. Gonzalez in the irons. This three-year-old filly moneyed six of her eight career starts, winning one.

There are no long-odds entries here that warrant the risk.

  • Win: Nan’s Rose 7/2

Pick for Thistledown Racino Race 8

This is a maiden special weight race for Ohio-foaled three-year-olds and upward running a distance of 5-1/2 furlongs for a purse of $27,500.

I like the 3/1 morning line favorite in this maiden race—Tom T, ridden by Luan Machado. This three-year-old colt failed to money in his single career start but has shown very good performance and times in his recent workouts.

The longer-odds entries in this race deserve their long odds. In fact, I suspect the morning line was being generous. In any case, save your long money for other races.

  • Win: Tom T 3/1

Okay, Thistledown was stingier than normal with the underdogs and value show bets, but you can find more moneymaking opportunities at the other two tracks I covered today:
