Thistledown Racino Picks – Wednesday, October 7, 2020

Thistledown Racino’s racing fare brings us six claiming and two maiden matches for a Wednesday total of eight thoroughbred races.

If you plan to attend the races (Thistledown permits spectators), expect a cloudy, windy day with little chance of rain and highs around 68 degrees.

Let’s move on to my Thistledown Racino picks and betting tips for today.

This is a starter optional claiming race for fillies and mares three-years-old and upward running a distance of one mile for a purse of $15,000.

I’m backing the second-favored (3/1) entry here—Flat Calm, with veteran jockey Hector Berrios in the irons. This five-year-old mare moneyed ten of her 19 career starts, winning six of them.

The longest odds in this six-horse race are 8/1, and I don’t see that happening, so save it for later.

This is an allowance race for fillies and mares three years old and upward running a distance of 5-1/2 furlongs for a purse of $23,000.

I agree with the morning line here, and my money’s on the 5/2 favorite—Circus Rings, with Hector Berrios aboard. This five-year-old mare finished in the money 14 of her 26 career starts, winning nine.

At 10/1, I like I’m Feeling Lucky, ridden by top jockey Edgar Paucar, for a value show bet. This four-year-old filly moneyed eight of her 11 career starts, winning two of them. With Paucar aboard, it’s a near-certainty she’ll see a payday in this race.

This is an allowance optional claiming race for Ohio foals three years old and upward running a distance of one mile for a purse of $33,000.

This is a pretty lackluster field, but I’m going to back the second half of the morning line’s 5/2 favorite—Funnel Cake, ridden by veteran jockey Jose A. Bracho. This five-year-old gelding moneyed ten of his 30 career starts, winning six of them. Don’t make such a face; that’s a solid record in this field.

There are two pairs of coupled entries in this race—one pair at the best odds, and the other pair at the longest—10/1, in the latter case. T. D. Houghton is listed as the rider for both of the 2/2A coupled entries, and if he rides the second half—Coincidentally—then he’s worth a value show ticket, otherwise, keep your long money in your wallet because his other mount is not worth the risk.
